Release the Masseter for TMJ Relief! - Priya Mistry, DDS (the TMJ doc) #masseter #jaw #tmjtreatment

Hello Friends! In this video, I review how to release the masseter muscle. This is a BIG (the biggest!), important, and regularly-used muscle of mastication. The masseter can easily be OVER-used with chronic clenching and grinding activity. When it is overused and when it becomes dysfunctional, it can lead to jaw pain and headaches! If you can release the masseter successfully, you can help to release tension and fibrotic areas that have built up within this muscle which will, in turn, help to relieve symptoms of jaw pain and/or headaches.

Another great video !!!. The intraoral one is really helpful. Also, just a thought, releasing the suprahyoid muscles? I'm not sure about others but i get a lot of tension/tighntess there. i actually can feel knots in some spots. I feel like tightness here, pulls back on the lower jaw. this can potentially further worsen tmjd issues and compress the joint even more.

Thank you so much for making these videos!! Is there anyway you could do more of the in mouth muscle tension release videos? These have helped me get rid of some much tension in my jaw and face.

Hi! Boy have you helped me… I had Bell’s palsy in 2005 - developed tmj in 2016 or so…. Didn’t know that it was tmj until much research and finding you 2 years ago. Question: I have A LOT OF POCKETS! Painful! I am constantly doing the exercises, pressure points, and gentle massage everyday, yet I cannot seem to make any headway in getting my jaw back to alignment. I open my mouth or push out my jaw and it goes left…literally! My ear area is still always tight, can’t open mouth all the way without pain in the muscles, and it feels like it’s ready to “pop”…lol, but I’ve been at it for months now……Is there something else I need to do to REGAIN the correct movement/placement of my jaw, teeth, and chin???? Thank you so much for all you have offered… my face has seen such a huge change… from drooping right side and normal left side, to almost even again! Yasss!

I just wanted to ask you that what is the elastic band excercise for the jaw after the joints replacement surgery as my surgeon told me that he will put me on the elastic band excercise after the surgery to retrain my muscles can please tell me what is it and is it going to be painful.

My tmj is more of a constant and extreme tightness and pressure in my jaw. Its so uncomfortable to talk and use my jaw in any way because it’s so fatigued and keeps getting worse and worse over the years. I think this releases will help if I do them consistently. I don’t want to use Botox as a temporary fix, but I’ve tried so many things. I have a massage therapist to myofacial release in my jaw next week.
