The best line "if we are able to learn what it takes to protect our brain then perhaps families will be able to stay together much longer".

What a great talk! He makes it very simple, to summarize do these for reducing risk of Alzheimer's and increase well being:

1. Eat colorful fruits and veggies daily: blueberries, grapes, broccoli etc for better memory.

2. Take Vitamin E to eliminate free radicals from brain but not just from pills but from foods like nuts / seeds (just a few), spinach, mangoes etc.

3. Reduce trans-fat from foods like donuts, pastries; and saturated fats like from Bacon, meat, cheese/dairy.

4. Reduce metals like iron, copper. Do not use iron skillets etc.

4. Exercise: nothing crazy, just do brisk walk three times a week, up to 40 minutes each time.

Do all of the above and one can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's by 80% even if you have the gene.

Not only was this some of the best content I’ve ever read on dementia, but he is an outstanding speaker. I cried at the end. I’m so grateful for what he helped accomplish with terminating the food pyramid.

Thank you so much for this! I’m 23 and play time is really over when it comes to health. At the end of the day it’s nobody’s responsibility but your own so I’m trying to do better for myself and my babies!

I am from india. Our food was like you describe it. Our snacks were made from jaggery and nuts. And then Pepsi and coke came in, lays chips became common. We forgot yoga. There’s a lot of good practices that should be brought back- which includes what to eat and when to eat.

Very good information, but do NOT underestimate the importance of sleep and stress. Not enough sleep and too much stress literally kills brain cells. And so do diet soda.

This man and his colleagues advocating for whole plant foods are heroes to me, because following their advice has reversed my heart disease. Proven with ultrasounds of my carotids and aorta, four years apart. It really is do-able.

I am a person who is very concerned about physical and mental health. I am on a healthy diet recommended by my dietitian who works for National Health Service UK. I am also doing aerobic exercises and brisk walking regularly. But I never knew that brisk walking makes my hippocampus bigger, which improves my memory. I am so grateful to Dr Neal Barnard. This is one of the best presentations I have ever come across.
