When I was a child I got really sick. Blizzard of 1978. My mom stayed with her best friend. My Dad made it in. You couldn't travel. My temperature was over 104. No way to get me to hospital. He made me a hot toddy with tea whiskey, honey, and some lemon juice. He helped me drink it. It's the only time I saw him cry. He slept on the floor beside my bed. My fever broke, and chicken noodle soup did the rest. Do you know that people chastised him for giving me whiskey. It saved my life. I grew up around farms and that incident started me on the road to herbal medicine!

The father of a friend taught me equal parts of the whiskey, lemon juice, and raw honey. No spices. Keep in frig. Take a tablespoon or two as needed. Works very well.

This is what the Ticos in Costa Rica make when someone starts to get a cold or flue or bronchitis. They cut 4 limes in half. (I think they were Key Limes) and squeeze all the juice as much as possible into a cup. Then they heat the juice so it is hot then stir 2 tablespoons of raw honey into the hot juice until it melts. The warmth makes you feel so good when sick and really helps with a cough and stuffiness. This is on my Natural List for remedies. Normally I would have been sick for at least 2 weeks but I was well within 5 days. Love my Tico neighbors. Always learning something new and so many fruits that I have never seen. I havent tasted any that I do not like. They are all delicious. I am adding this too to my list because it helps with the sore throat.

I made the JD with lemon and local honey when had the dry cough. Whatever was in my throat it broke it up and I was able to have a productive cough and get better. I'm not a drinker but since then I keep some around now

I was given a lot of fresh lemons from my neighbor. I fermented some in honey and then put it in the fridge. I had no idea what I was going to do with the syrupy mixture, but now I know. Thank you!

A few years ago I decided to make a sore throat spray. I added some elderberry syrup to spilanthes extract in a small medicine bottle with a spray top. It worked very well and the grandchildren liked it. A good sleep remedy for children who have a cold is a warm glass of milk with a spoon of honey and a chunk of butter at bedtime. I remember my mother giving this to me and it was soothing and I would easily fall asleep. I used the same for my child.

I had whooping cough as a child and whenever I got a sore throat, I would cough until my toes curled. Not only was the duration long, but I was very loud when coughing. So as not to wake the house up, my dad kept a teddy bear container of this mixture on his night stand. When he heard me coughing I would get a small spoonful. Knocked me off my toes for the night. No I did not turn into an alcoholic, nor do I drink period unless taking a small teaspoonful at night till this day. He called it his Italian silencer😂

My Mom used to make cough syrup with honey, peppermints, butter, lemon and GIN. It was so good that you had no problem taking some. It was better than anything you can buy today.

Take one onion and dice put in mason jar in layers with raw honey. Cover. After a shirt time you will notice a liquid forming. After several hours strain. I take one Teaspoon at a time when cough happens. Also Egyptian Licorice root tea with honey and lemon

Thank you! I just put a pint jar of this together, and after watching Dr. Eric Berg's video on how to stop a sore throat instantly, I added 1 bay leaf to your recipe.

I remember my mom giving me hot toddies for my cramps they were better than over the counter medicine. I do take the hot toddies for mucus and coughs that work better than the cough medicine. I’ve gone back to all the old remedies and herbs because I find they help much better.

I used blackberry brandy, and I think it equaled 1 tsp to do that...Yes, it is effective!

My mom used to, and I did with my kids, give us hot tea honey n lemon or if really bad heat a bit of honey with lemon in a shot glass and take warm as a cough syrup. Then nothing to drink for a bit to let it work. Also, gargle very warm salt water before bed and as needed as a very strong expectorant. These came from my grandma who was born in Sicily and had all of her children there. My grandfather brought them over to America as a veteran of WWI. I hated ginger as a young person, but have come to appreciate and enjoy it in recent years. I will enjoy incorporating many of the herbs and spices you are recommending. I may even incorporate some of my double dipped moonshine maple wine 😂
