Narcissism originates from the Greek mythology, where the young Narcissus fell in love with his own self reflection in a pool. The term was later popularized by the doctor Sigmund Freud. The American psychiatric association (APA) has included narcissistic personality disorder, as part of the DSM since 1968. Do you suspect yourself growing with a narcissistic parent? Is your mother or father narcissistic? Are you a children of a narcissist? If so, then you might want to watch this video to see if you relate to the signs.

*There is a difference between parentship and ownership.*

Parenting is based on love, narcissism is based on fear.

Growing up with a narcissist mother has caused me to associate love with pain and now I have trouble trusting anyone and letting anyone in

I've always doubted myself as to whether i'm actually being emotionally abused or not. I always felt like I was just sensitive and overreacting but it's such a relief to finally see that what i'm experiencing is very much real, and very much painful. Please pray for me to get out of this household :(

I’ll never forget the day I realized my dad is a narcissist. Every now and then I watch one of these videos to remind myself I’m not crazy and this is really what I was living when I was a teen.

- age = wisdom

- “i love you, but i *can get disappointed* ”

- “i am the parent, *you are the child* ”

- “i am not as bad as (insert abusive person here), so shut up.”

- “ *i know you better than you know yourself* ”

I HATE IT when people would say “you only have one mother.” We’ll I rather have no mother than have a narcissistic one in my life. That’s real talk.

Parenting should be based on love. If you're parents care more about their image, they really suck.

This might sound awful: I used to live only with my mom, but when my mom died of course I was devastated, but as time went by, I started having a new feeling which I wasn't very familiar with: that feeling was actual peace... Authentic peace.
I started feeling bad about myself because of that, I was like (How can I feel good if mom is gone?), But then I found out about narcisism and I started to understand why was I feeling so relieved.
Now I'm attempting to be a better person every day.

Some people should really rethink about bringing a child into their miserable and abusing lives and narcissists are some of those

To people with narcissistic parents, remember: you don't have to love them (and for that matter, you don't have to love anyone). Society teaches us that we have to love our family, but there's no reason for us to love someone who abuses us and does more harm than good, even if they're your parents.
After you understand that, it'll be much easier to love people who deserve it, and it'll be a lot easier for you to do what's best for you, not what society thinks is best for you.
Remember: love has to be earned, even with family.

Lived my whole life with my parents like that. Now that I won't follow their orders anymore they're throwing me out from home. Best thing that could've happened to me

So I have an abusive mom, an abusive dad, and both of them are narcissistic.

Great.
