The LORD is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul. (Psalm 23:1-2). "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30). I find that through the busyness of life, I often feel weary, worn-down and burdened by various cares. The Yoke of Jesus is Rest. Trust. Complete trust in Him, and His care for me. I try to make things happen - even my righteousness before the Father, by "being good". But I have found that striving keeps me from the Rest of the Lord. When I get still and surrender my plans, my day, my desires - to Jesus, then peace comes. Like the song says, "Be still, my soul." It takes an act of my will to get still and quiet before the Lord, to set aside my agenda and just allow Jesus to restore me. I am so grateful Jesus is named Faithful, and is true to His promises.
