Rabies is actually one of the most painful way to go, i hope we would find it's cure, though it can easily be prevented if people get vaccine immediately after bite.

Curing rabies will ruin alot of zombie fantasies in the future especially since alot of movies used rabies as the reason for the virus

Sounds really nice; rabies has always been very scary to me

And also I can imagine human trials being easy to set up from an ethical perspective: anyone showing symptoms is pretty much doomed already, so the only ethical qualifier I can think of is it not causing too much pain (instead of also having to look at possible long-term harm)

Genuinely, this makes me so hopeful. Rabies has a roughly 97-99% fatality rate, and yet, human beings are working to subvert that. And more than that, we’re figuring out how to do it. I dunno, it’s one of those cool things that makes me think about how amazing we are :)

Monoclonal antibodies are crazy expensive, though... Even if it is reasonably effective (even if it's like 60% chance of survival), I doubt it will reach the countries that truly need it.

As someone who has gone through a complete cycle of rabdovert I can say with EXTREME CERTAINTY it sucks. I had a 11 shots for my first round and I passed out, twice. They basically squirted 2 capri suns in me.

As a veterinary professional, Im going to cry tears of joy when this does become a reality for us. The thought of potentially never having to get a rabies series done after getting bit at work again makes me so happy.

I think any patient with rabies ought to be allowed to request any experimental treatment out there.

Whoever’s in charge of letting them do human trials on things should authorize it for patients who come in with rabies. Not actively give people rabies cuz that would kill then if it didn’t work but try it on people who have come in with rabies symptoms and see if it works because they’re gonna die anyway so if it cures it then they should be allowed to try in my opinion

If something comes of this, I think I shall throw a party, the creation of an effective treatment for Rabies after symptoms start showing would be an incredible medical achievement matching even the eradication of smallpox. It is one of a relatively small number of diseases with 100% fatality rate, or at least so I have heard. I might throw a party if it happens.

Could this possibly lead to cures for more animals? It could be a way to eradicate rabies altogether in animals, and by that point hopefully we'll have figured out a way to cure it in humans too.

I'm glad we've even made that much progress honestly. It'll be hard to reliably test it on people cause yk, rabies is lethal so it'd be hard to test it, but if it actually could help cure or recover from rabies I'd be delighted to see them continue researching it and refining it.
