This is why our parents told us to stay away from raccoons

Interesting fact: People infected with rabies are not really hydrophobic (scared of water), but instead scared of swallowing. The rabies causes their throat muscles to contract, making them feel pain when swallowing substances. By just showing them a glass of water, they would react that it frights them. But, it is not the appearance of water that scares them, it is the idea of them swallowing that water that would make them suffer.

There was a video of a kid that have rabies. He was trying his hardest to drink a bottle of water. My guess is that if he can drink it, it means it wasnt rabies and he can still live.

It was quite heart breaking to watch

Between the aggression, aversion to bright lights, lack of motor control, and impaired communication and similar functions, this is the closest thing we have to a zombie virus and not enough people know that.

Rabies is almost impossible to cure. My dad worked in a hospital as a surgeon and he was working a late night shift when a boy was brought into the hospital because of a dog bite. He was diagnosed with rabies. My dad worked a few hours just helping him live his last hours and at one instance he even had a small cut and had a chance to be infected. Anyways, the boy died on his bed as he was brought in too late. One of the scariest experiences my dad told me about. Rest in Peace to that guy

UPDATE: i corrected a few errors that i had made after hearing the story again from my dad

The thing that sucks about it is by the time your showing symptoms it’s almost always to late to get the cure.

A good thing to know is, virus takes almost a year to reach the brain. If you got bitten, get yourself vaccinated real fast.

Rabies can be treated or more like you can avoid rabies taking over your brain if you quickly go the hospital for the cure. You should not waste any time and rush, but the step 1 is to be calm always.

Zack's comment section never runs out of bots. Seriously I'm tired of them.

Missing the part that it is not treatable after a certain amount of time. If you ever receive an animal bite get checked out right away and they can still give you something to stop the rabies before it progresses. You’re only guaranteed to die once the harsher symptoms start to manifest

No. In rabies patients, fear of water does not make swallowing difficult. It's actually opposite. Difficulty in swallowing make them fear water.

What is the purpose of bots in this comment section rn

Rabies, is basically a 50/50 depending if you realize it immediately or not, if you get bitten with a rabies-infected animal you should immediately treat it and you are SUPPOSED to be fine if you do that, but if you let go of rabies/not realizing that you're infected, and especially when you already get the symptoms, you're already too late.

Edit: forgot to put the "correct me if I'm wrong" so correct me if I'm wrong guys.

What's insane is that some time last year on the news(UK BBC) there was a story about a tribe of people found some where in a jungle (I believe in south America but might be misremembering) and doctors found that 1 in 10 of those people had antibodies for rabies. Considering that this was the first time this tribe had access to 'modern medicine' it means that the people had contracted rabies and naturally healed from it meaning that the human race has evolved. Considering that rabies without medical attention is 100% fatal, I find it absolutely amasing
