I got a scar in my right leg from rabid dog bite when i was 12. My dad rushed me to the nearby clinic, clean the wound and got me a rabies shots to the arms. The doctor told me to come back if i feel dizzy or anything out of the ordinary. It's a pure terror and i still remember the panic from my dad's face.
Thankfully no rabies but the scar remains

Rabies is one of the few things you really want to avoid, unless you're depressed and suicidal, or just want to die. I wouldn't be close to any of the animals with rabies.

The fatality rate for rabies is over 99% if you show signs of infection. Of over 59, 000 full infections, only 25 people survived.

My grandmother was bit by a rabid dog. She was pregnant at the time. She threw my mother, who was a toddler, over a fence. Grandma was in the middle of jumping over the fence, when the dog bit her heel. She had a series of shots with a long needle in her stomach. It was painful.

The doctors and the family were concerned about the unborn child. They were worried about birth defects, but the baby, a girl, turned out to be healthy.

I had to get a series of rabies shots this year. My friends cat got sick, bit me when they called me to help, then died the next day (long annoying story). This happened in the spring and I’m still having issues with one of the bite spots.

I had heard horror stories about rabies shots to the stomach. Thankfully I got mine in my arms….still flipping hurt, but no rabies :)

My mom told me when she was 8, living in Mexico in the 70s, she was bitten on the chest by her uncle's rabid dog. She told me it was 21 shots around her belly bottom.

I remembered the days growing up where rabies infected dogs were quite common. Per grown up advice, if you see a dog starting to be aggressive or crazy then stay away as far as possible.

As a vet tech, I have my rabies vaccine and I am very grateful to have not been bitten by a rabid animal but sometimes I forget the average person does not have the Vx and get horrified looks when I get too close to wild/ stray animals

I went on vacation to Turks and Caicos and I was told when they would adopt stray dogs (potcakes) to foreigners they made sure to let potential adopters that they could not take the dog back once it left the country and TCI is a rabies-free country. I think that's a smart move since rabies is so scary,

A couple years ago, I was scratched up badly by a stray kitten when I saved it from being stuck in a fence. It ran off. I was pretty certain it didn't have rabies because most of the feral cats in our area have been vacinated and released. But being a kitten, it's mother had obviously never been vaccinated, because she would have also had been fixed. So I went to the ER to start my Rabies vaccinations. The kitten came back and was very friendly and never showed signs of Rabies. We caught him, vaccinated him, and adopted him. I don't regret getting the shots. I knew there was a small chance he had rabies. But if he did, there was a 100% chance I would die.

I have read an account of another survivor; a Spanish man. He survived full onset rabies, only to die in a traffic accident because he didn't look properly before crossing a road, and getting hit by a bus.

I guess he used his ration of good luck battling rabies.

When I was little and vacationing in Bolivia, I was attacked by a dog that bit my face; to make things worse, it was my family's dog and they did not give him his rabies vaccination. I had more than 10 shots into my system when they rushed me to emergency. It was a horrifying experience, and to this day, I still have a scar below my left eye left behind from the attack.

My uncle died from rabies but and my dad caught it early. They were on a walk and a dog came and attacked them.

I once was bitten by a squirrel at a park and went to a doctor. They told me that I didn't need a shot because there's no rabies where we are and to come back if anything happens. Well, by then I'm practically dead
