Tywin thinks so highly of himself and the name Lannister that, to him, not murdering an infant dwarf out of petty spite is a great kindness

2:55 it is VERY CLEAR Tyrion is pissed about the death of the Starks. He had a soft spot for them even though his family was at war with them. And he always knew that his family was on the wrong side of that war.

1:35 "Let them remember what happens when they march on the South"
That line was so powerful

This scene is Tywin trying to soothe his own conscience by arguing with Tyrion, who represents his guilt.

Twyin just smirking at his least favorite child for being the only one clever enough to actually be his heir.

"You want to write a song to the dead Starks, go ahead write one." One of the best quotes by Tywin.

Tywin never misses a chance to remind Tyrion how much he hates him

Tywin might think he was being pragmatic in orchestrating the Red Wedding, but ultimately it backfired on him and his family horribly. There's a reason nobody ever broke guest right in such a manner before the Red Wedding because they knew that nobody would ever trust them, at least, and want them dead for such sacrilege, at most. The Old Gods in particular, the gods that the Starks and most of the North have worshipped for over ten thousand years, will turn absolutely vicious towards those who would dare break guest right and having their most prominent worshippers slaughtered via such sacrilege would make them pull out all the stops to make sure the ones responsible were punished. And when you think about

* Tywin Lannister - shot dead by his own son and his precious family legacy entirely dismantled.
* Roose Bolton - stabbed in the heart by his own bastard son like he murdered Robb Stark and the Bolton line and name ended forever.
* Walder Frey - throat slit by Arya Stark and every male Frey poisoned to death, wiping out the entire house.

Old Gods had their revenge.

Tywin thinks he is compassionate for not murdering his baby child because of he is a dwarf. To him, that is a great kindness that warrants how terribly he treated that same child the entire time it was alive.

He didn’t kill his child, but he reminded that child how much he hates him and wishes he were dead at almost every chance.

"When have you ever done something that wasn't in your interest but solely for the benefit of the family?"
"The day that you were born!"
Holy shit that was so fucking heartbreaking, Tywin letting Tyrion fully know that he never had any slice of afection to him and he didn't kill him because it would've ruined the family reputation

“I hated you from the day you were born and the fact that you’re alive is my gift to you”

And you’re surprised he’s so fked up?

I find ironic that The Son he wanted the most was also the one he hated the most.
Tyrion was the most like Tywin.

I enjoy that despite how disgusted tywin is by tyrion, you can see he does enjoy when they have an intellectual conversation. Ironically this glimpse of a son he wants probably made tywin more sour towards tyrion too.

“Let them remember what happens when they March on the south”? Tywin got his ass kicked in every battle. He’s was lucky Robb was a horrible politician and the Bolton’s were traitors.

Here you see that Tywin, despite his hatred, knows well the value of his neglected son. He had no reason to ask his opinion on the matter, other than the desire to have a confrontation with a smart one.

I find it interesting that Tywin would resort to telling Tyrion that the one time he did something not in his interest but for the family was not killing Tyrion, this shows that Tywin never really does anything that isnt in his interest other than when Tyrion was born, he resorted to telling Tyrion that to flip the conversation, Tyrion is right it’s easy for someone to preach utter devotion to family when they make all the decisions, Tywin never took his children’s feelings into account and thanks to that it backfired heavily on him, his son and heir didn’t care about the legacy, his daughter spat on the legacy by bearing 3 children born of incest and his youngest one killed him and then was the only surviving member of the family at the end and therefore was the one to carry on his legacy so not killing Tyrion was the best decision he ever made when you think about it, had he killed him the Lannister name would’ve died with Jaime and Cersei

Tyrion was always sarcastic Tywin was always literal believing Tyrion didn’t understand his duty or the game.

I always loved their interactions. Tywin was determined not to love Tyrion. But he had the utmost respect for his mind. The only two people in the whole show he let peer into his mind much below the surface, and also be interested in their thoughts, was Tyrion and Arya.
