SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY:
Anxiety can cause many different symptoms. It might affect how you feel physically, mentally and how you behave.

It's not always easy to recognise when anxiety is the reason you're feeling or acting differently.

Physical symptoms:
faster, irregular or more noticeable heartbeat
feeling lightheaded and dizzy
headaches
chest pains
loss of appetite

Mental symptoms:
feeling tense or nervous
being unable to relax
worrying about the past or future
feeling tearful
not being able to sleep

Change in behaviour:
not being able to enjoy your leisure time
difficulty looking after yourself
problems concentrating at work
struggling to form or maintain relationships
worried about trying new things
avoiding places and situations that create anxiety

SYMPTOMS OF A PANIC ATTACK:
If you experience sudden, intense anxiety and fear, it might be the symptoms of a panic attack. Other symptoms may include:

a racing heartbeat
feeling faint, dizzy or light-headed
feeling that you're losing control
sweating, trembling or shaking
shortness of breath or breathing very quickly
a tingling in your fingers or lips
feeling sick (nausea)
A panic attack usually lasts 5 to 30 minutes. They can be very frightening, but they're not dangerous and should not harm you.

ANXIETY TREATMENT:

STAYING OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE & SOCIAL MEDIA:

WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE FOR ANXIETY:
If you need more support, you can get free psychological therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) on the NHS.

See a GP if:
• You're struggling to cope with anxiety, fear or panic
• Things you're trying yourself are not helping
• Having continuous negative thoughts or any thoughts of self harm or suicide
• You would prefer to get a referral from a GP

Ask for an urgent GP appointment or call 111 if:
• You need help urgently, but it's not an emergency

Call 999 or go to A&E now if:
• You or someone you know needs immediate help
• You have seriously harmed yourself – for example, by taking a drug overdose
A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a medical emergency.

When I'm having this attacks, I feel like there's a lump on my throat and my chest feels heavy it's as if I'm gasping for air, and its really terrifying.

My anxiety gets worse when I try to focus on my breathing. I feel like I’m more out of breath for some reason.

Great video. When I was in isolation due to being affected by Covid, my anxiety levels were at peak. The only thing that helped me relieve my anxiety was Yoga. I used to practice yoga and breathing exercises daily. I have grown to love yoga so much that I have decided to join Vivekananda Yoga University and become a certified yoga instructor. Wish me luck!

Great video! I developed severe anxiety attacks over consistent chest and back pain (about 6 months now) I have been checked but so many doctors and the one thing they tell me is that my chest and back pain is an msk issue - not cardiac - so I am going to see both a physio and chiropractor next week to help me with this daily pain I get. But before this I was a very healthy person - working out almost every day and drumming with the band almost every weekend - so I was fit. Since experiencing these scary pains and anxiety attacks I've developed as a result - I'm down 35 pounds and a total mental mess - however, watching this video has given me some awesome tips and I will definitely try them! Thank you!

I threw up and me being TERRIFIED of the feeling, I got super anxious and scared. I felt like I could hear my heart beating quickly, I had no control, I was scared. I took meds to ease nausea but my doc said anxiety could still bring about the feeling of throwing up. Now I am scared to drink or eat anything because I fear it may cause me to throw up again. I will definitely try some of these tips and hope to ease my anxiety. Another great video!
