As a pre med student this is actually so helpful. Not too many people talk about the ins and outs of the finance in this professions. Thanks Dr. Schmidt ☺️

50, 000 dollars a MONTH?!! As a UK doctor, I could only dream of that kind of money!! Heck, maybe I'll move to Alaska 😂
In the UK, doing locum work (filling in blank gaps in the rota) can be quite lucrative and freeing, but is also unstable compared to being in a training programme.

As a premed who lives in Alaska, our healthcare system is really… weird. We have a huge underserved population but the doctors that will be working with this population primarily earn substantially less than doctors working in a private practice or something. Our hospitals are incredibly understaffed in terms of nurses/techs/etc, but the tech jobs up here all require direct certification, so it’s hard to even train people to do these jobs. Also winter is pretty rough up here. I would recommend against the job offer up here honestly, you might make a lot but living here can definitely take its toll over a career. I’m definitely looking forward to getting out of this state asap lol.

Hi just found your channel and want to share my personal experience in hopes of saving a life. Back in 2012 I started experiencing rectal pain and bleeding, change in bowel movement size and unexplained weight loss. I was 37. I went to a GI doctor and he listened to my symptoms and told me I had a rectal tear. I asked about cancer as I had a history of HPV and family history of colon cancer. He laughed at me and said to stop googling my symptoms. Fast forward to October of 2013 and the pain was so bad I literally couldn't walk or sit. He during the entire time never performed a DRE or took my symptoms seriously. I ended up in the ER because I woke up and literally couldn't get out of bed due to the pain. On November 1st I was taken into surgery for a rectal tear repair. The surgery was changed to a biopsy after the surgeon discovered a cancerous mass. By the time it was discovered it was stage 3. I had an aggressive cancer that could have been discovered sooner had my GI doctor taken my symptoms seriously. He disregarded my symptoms because I was "too young" to have cancer. I hope that you see this comment and learn from my experience. If a patient presents with weight loss, change in bowels, pain and bleeding don't assume it can't be cancer just based on age. Please take the extra precaution to not rule it out and send them for a PT scan. Had my doctor done that and taken me seriously instead of laughing in my face I'd still have my rectum and not have a permanent colostomy.

I definitely appreciated the vast amount of doctors/surgeons available in LA (LAC+USC) last year when I needed emergency back surgery. I was even transferred 30 miles by ambulance to get there.

#4 Payor mix. That's arguably just as important as the three mentioned in this video. At least in our current health care system.

This is a great explanation on the topic of doctor income variability. But what I don’t like about the independent physician model is that some are so focused on income they make the patients feel like a number and don’t respect their time. Also, is that a urine sample in front of your YouTube plaque?

Plastic surgery is often paid out of the own pocket or covered by expensive insurance.

Please make a video about how much people send for Healthcare in the different income groups.

Richests 5 or 10 % vs poorest 5 or 10%

In Serbia, you get about 850 € as a specialist doctor. Sad.

Good explanation, but it still seems pretty unfair that dermatologists make nearly twice as much as endocrinologists.

I know the state of Georgia used to have a program, free medical school but you agreed to work in rural under served areas. That was 11 years ago. Sure it had changed.
