Things Bad Doctors Say

Over my years in medicine I’ve had the pleasure of working with a countless number of brilliant and wonderful doctors… as well as a handful of docs I’d rather forget. While the vast majority of doctors are kind, intelligent, and have a strong moral compass, I’ve identified 7 types of doctors who are more like snakes hiding in the weeds. These doctors can be selfish, greedy, ignorant, or just downright mean. Whether they’re trying to sell you their own miracle cure, refusing to perform a physical exam, or judging your lifestyle, these doctors should be sent back to med school for some extra education. If you come across one of these doctors, run!

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Not to forget the doctors that blame everything on anxiety just because you have a history of it

Fun fact: when I was being born, the doctors in the hospital there kept giving my mom too many painkillers, and just left her when I was born for a while. She legitimately could've died there while no one was watching. What's worse is that it was a C section. My family have decided to never go to that hospital ever, as they did things like that REGULARLY.

I felt the angry doctor one, once I had a dentist get mad when I flinched getting a cavity filled when he was about to put the needle in, so he worked on another patient for half an hour! Glad we have doctors like you

I like that every different doctor has a different mustache.

My worst experience for a diagnostic with a doctor was when a urologist specialised in fertility said that my problem was just that I was overweight and should just lose weight. I had to insist vigorously to have juste a bare minimum blood test to see if there was something else. Turned out I had a tumor in the brain that was messing with my hormones. I changed clinic after that. Doctors who judge fat people like me and blame everything on their weight should receive extra training to teach them empathy.

I was diagnosed with bipolar type 1 when I was 19. I will admit that I was a stubborn young adult who also had a lot of mental health issues. These two together caused me to take myself off my meds. That went fine for several months until I ended up in a psych hospital. The doctor looked me up and down the first day and said I was wasting his time because I stopped taking my meds, which isn't uncommon for psych patients. If he had asked, I could have explained exactly why I quit and what the barriers were so I would be less likely to quit in the future. But he didn't care. I've been to that hospital for inpatient and outpatient care many times and have had many bad experiences with that doctor. He is the worst doctor of any specialty (except maybe my childhood dentist) I've ever seen

Patient: "To what exactly?"
Doctor: "To the exposures."

Second skit hit home. I went to the ER with severe upper abdominal pain. The doc walks into the room, at this point they've taken my vitals and nothing else. He asks what's wrong and I tell him. He lays me down and touches my stomach in different spots. He then says "you have appendicitis. We are going to need to operate." I look at him confused and tell him that that's not possible. He then gives me a lecture about how he went to medical school and his residency and all his years experience and asks me if I went to medical school. I looked at him and said "I don't need to go to medical school to know I can't be having issues with an organ I do not have. I had an appendectomy when I was 5". And I left.

I was struggling with shoulder dislocations a lot. It happened at least once a week while playing sports and exercising. So I got benched from my basketball team. I then went to the doctor and she told me that I would just outgrow my shoulder dislocations. I thought this was crazy, but she cleared me to go back to play so I was happy. The dislocations kept getting worse so I went to a different doctor who wanted me to get an MRI. So I did and then found out that my labrum was detached from my bone. So I ended needed surgery. Truth be told when your shoulder frequently dislocates you are not going to outgrow it.

I don't normally reply to your videos since there are like 8 million comments already, and I know no one will read it, but I had to share. I know this was meant to be humorous, and you did a great job, but I honestly had to fight back tears. I have a little understood chronic illness, and I've had some of the worst doctor experiences. Doctors literally do so many of the things you portrayed here. It's such a shame. I cry before almost every new doctor appointment because I never know how rude they're going to be to me. I didn't even see a doctor for 4 years after one made fun of me. It's really hard being a patient. You feel broken, you finally reach out, and then you just get crushed. It's truly awful.

I love that he is basically promoting a whole person approach. I have found the rare doctor that does that. I wish it was more common.

I had a doctor who only said to me, “you’re fat, cut back on the late night snacks.” I was seven, didn’t eat at night, and turns out I was underweight at the time. I have a much better doctor now, but I will never forget that appointment cuz it made me incredibly self conscious 😂
