It's an amazing skill actually. If you get a good anesthesiologist. I had a shitty one once...I woke up mid surgery and half-groggy started to pull my tubes out. Thank God for the other actual doctor who was nearby and alerted the entire floor by screaming at them all to put me back to sleep immediately. Trauma, indeed.

That is so unhealthy to be sleep deprived and it increases the risk of human error on innocent patients. Doctors even recommend that people get proper rest. Why would any hospital/doctors condone this?

It’s the 50-70 hours a week that causes the burn out and exhaustion. My neighbor was killed on his way home in a car accident where it was determined a fell asleep. We live 2.5 miles from the hospital he worked in. He had a young wife, and twin toddlers. Self care is so important.

People with the ability to become a doctor are smart enough to do pretty much anything they want for a living, so to not choose a path of least resistance instead and become a doctor is a gift to your fellow humans.

My cousin has his doctorate in anesthesiology. He may earn alot, but the guy is so busy he doesn't really have time to spend.

I'm so grateful to the two anaesthetists I had when I had my hernia repair. I was really concerned about my asthma and they put me at ease and used ultrasound to guide my pain relief epidural and arterial needle in. They were probably in their 50s but just knowing that they were confident that my asthma wouldn't be a problem and I would be fine really eased my mind and my surgery went well. God bless you and every healthcare worker we as patients appreciate it.❤❤❤❤❤

I love anesthesiologists. I got my wisdom teeth removed recently and all I remember is them wrapping a breathing apparatus in my nose and falling asleep. Woke up later feeling very lucid just after surgery. 10/10 would do again (preferably not mouth surgery).

What he is saying is 💯 true. The responsibility is unbelievable. It is one of the medical fields which requires the knowledge about the human body and how it works together. I don’t know if he also included the cost of medical malpractice. You must do it because of your desire to help your patients and their family of all ages. Totally rewarding!

Anesthesia is the greatest rest of my life!!! 😂 I wasn't even aware at any point when I was going into surgeries. They would tell me they were going to administer the anesthesia (and would prep me way sooner). I looked at them once and said "huh?" I was out before they could answer.
Another time, I was being wheeled away and thought they were just moving me. They said "It's time" and asked if I was ready. I don't even remember answering. 😂
The next time... I'm determined to catch them administering it. Sneaky anesthesiologists. You guys are amazing!!

I wanted to be an anesthesiologist because I wanted to have a social life while still being a major part of the medical field, I just wanted to be apart of it for some reason. I only learned how much they made when a teacher asked us what we wanted our Carter’s to be. I was so confused when she said, “wow, that is a high paying job!”

Let's not forget in some cases doctors that have loans building from undergrad. At least a doctor deserves it as opposed to many of these CEOs
