It's simple, Sony does some things better, Nikon does some things better, Canon does some things better. There is no best.

Love your videos. I have a Canon 5D Mark IV and I'm thrilled with it. I bet I'd be thrilled with a Nikon or Sony also. I think your right when you say "It doesn't matter".

Favorite possible deciding factor: "You might need a native tilt-shift lens." ;-)

You are a real pro Tony. As an engineer, I appreciate your knowledge, attitude, and presentation.

I couldn´t decide which one to get, so I got myself a Fuji GFX instead....

Im actually tired of incremental improvements and no innovation at all in the DSLR segment. It is about time Sony steps in and takes their huge slice of a pie.

two underdogs shocked the industry leaders last year. Go Sony Go AMD. Competition is good for consumers. thanks tony, chelesea and justin for good content. Much appriciated.

Tony & Chelsea Northrup RE: WetSony, the camera that they tested was an A7RIII, which doesn't have the same level of weather sealing as Sony's Sports camera the A9. I have an A9, it's been in a rain-forest in St. Lucia, soaked mists in Niagra Falls, and in downpour rain at the Grand Canyon and in Thailand, it keeps shooting when wet no problem.

Tilting screens, IBIS, and EVF are so essential it baffles me why people still resent them. I haven't picked up my Canon since I experienced these features on the Sony.

I have a Sony a6000 and then also bought a Canon 80D... what I found is that they are all great cameras when shooting stills. There's no significant difference for non-pro people. Your skill and lens are far more important than the camera body. 80D has more reliable autofocus and battery life. Sony has lighter body so I take it with me for long hikes.
However, the reason we bought 80D is wildlife photography. We love shooting birds for fun. Our Sony combo A6000+18-200mm is just not reliable. Autofocus is slow and not accurate. So if I want to upgrade within Sony system, my obvious choice would be a6500+ G100-400mm. That's $4000!!! Also a6500 is too light for the big telephoto lens so it doesn't feel right... I can also go to A7riii but that's way too expensive. So I end up looking at Canon system. My dad has a 5Div and A7rii, so I tried both and I feel Canon autofocus at wildlife is very very reliable. Notice that I'm not pro. The no.1 thing I need for my wildlife shoot is focus! So I go and buy a 80D+70-200mm f4L IS+ 400mm f5.6L for less than $3000...Then I get a lens from my dad 16-35 f4L is ii. Notice the entire combo, all L lenses, covering landscape, portrait, sports and wildlife is below $4000, the same price for A6500+G100-400mm...

Maybe some people will argue Sony can have similar performance and smaller body. Well, but you have to pay for it...And it doesn't matter that much once you put a L or G lens on it... My point is for non-pro photography, Canon and Sony are all very capable, but Canon is at a much lower price point. And I bet for most people, your photo on Facebook and instagram will look no difference whether you use 80D or A7riii... It's the skill that matters.

10:45 just a little nitpick, the noise from the averaging of 4 photos actually decreases by a factor of 2, not 4 ;)

The eye AF on the sonys is huge. anytime I am shooting anything with people in it(unless there is a crowd), eye af makes the experience unbelievably better. not having to change focus points at ALL while shooting and being able to put the subject in the very edge and getting perfect focus most of the time is a huge blessing. Matters so much more than a tiny difference in sharpness.

I know you don't recommend adapted glass on the Sony a7riii. Did you happen to try the Canon 24-70 adapted on the a7riii for comparison to see if it is as sharp on the Sony as on the native Canon?

You are kind of wrong about sony not having lenses.. You can put any old manual lens on a sony body and still have a great focusing support (focus peaking, exposure metering, etc)

From 14:16--15:12,the Canon's picture is Raw,but the Sony's is JEPG! So the comparison of samples is not equal and unfair, it may mislead the conclusion. Therefore this part is not convincing!According to the DxOMark‘s test, the resolution of the Sony G Master 24-70mm lens is better than the Canon’s. Thank you for your detailed comparison and sharing!!

This is the single most helpful video I have watched for deciding which camera to buy. Although I still can't find one where the frame of reference is video instead of photos.

I don't like that nearly all Sony full frame e-mount lenses are more expensive than the equivalent Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron lenses. Of course there are newer but I don't see in the near future any price drop.

Years ago when film cameras were a thing, i entered the Canon world and stayed there as digital came along, developing and upgrading a lens kit little-by-little as funds have allowed. I've enjoyed watching the developments and competition in the camera arena and the "noise" of "Who's on first?" Meanwhile, I enjoy a moment of zen as I open my pack and pull out whatever lens I need for a particular picture. The photo is the thing.
