this guy is the first actual doctor who I've heard talking in a slight southern accent.

My recipe for the last 20 years: 1 cup of water, boiled or distilled, 1/4 teaspoon Kosher or pickling salt and you can also add 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda if you want. I found the organic baking soda better. The Arm and Hammer crap gave me an ammonia smell afterwards.
I now use the Navage system for better results.

Extremely helpful! Thank you! You just saved me a ton of money. Been doing irrigation for years and buying the little packets!

Thank you! I was looking for tons of different solutions and this gave me peace of mind. Going to slightly warm distilled water and add regular salt

Years ago when I worked with an eye doctor, we had a patient that made her own contact lens solution with distilled water. She went blind. Distilled water is not sterile. In this patient's case, acantamoeba was the problem. Again I stress, distilled water is not sterile. I would not put it in my eyes or up my nose. Hope this helps someone.

Ok, I make a hypertonic saline solution to irrigate my nose with a Neti pot. My measurements are as follows: 1 c water at room temperature, ., 1/2 tsp non iodized salt and 1/2 tsp sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).

I’ve been stuck using nasal sprays for the last 6 months, clog up about 4 times a day. Only other symptoms are headaches on the temple and pressure around the eyes, forehead, and cheekbone. Hopefully this is more helpful than the spray.

This was really helpful, thank you. I had to smile at the instructions to boil the water in the microwave or on the stove though, I can’t fathom how Americans manage without electric kettles, would be totally alien to me!

A bit too much salt in the mixture is less irritating than too little salt.

Is using tap water with a PUR faucet filtration system safe? Is drinking this amoeba laden water just as dangerous, especially if you have short bowel syndrome?! Please & thank-you!

I’ve used course salt but I let it sit in water over night and warm it in fridge. Dissolves pretty well I think. I’m wondering if we can use baking soda instead of salt please, & thank-you?

In cooking it's said that coarse salt dissolves faster since it has more surface. Either way one wouldn't rinse the nose until all the salt is completely dissolved so that's a bad reason to exclude coarse salt...

Thanks a lot for such info.
I have one question.
Is Organic Sea Salt is safe to use to make this solution?

Thank you! Do you know what % of hypertonic saline is safe for nebulisation? Is soda bicarbonate solution PH 8.4 safe for nebulisation? How to make it?
