I used to wash the dishes when I got angry but I wouldn't be rough with the dishes or anything. My dad hated it and called it "throwing a tantrum" and my brothers loved it cause they didn't have to wash the dishes.

It's great to see this as a real example to calm yourself down here.

Crochet helps me so much with my anxiety, especially patterns that have very little change, like single stitch blankets or scarves.

I clean for a living. And I am so blessed to be able to do the one thing that literally quells my anxiety. Glad to know this is an actual thing and not just me being nuts.

I work a 12 step program and we said “move a muscle, change a thought”. I’m happy to report it works most of the time 😊

"Let your mind process it a little bit", I do it sometimes, go out for a walk, without music, without cellphone, alone, hand in my pockets, and the mind filled with thoughts. It's incledible when you stop playing videogames, watching youtube videos, just stay off, the mind starts working, sometimes its tiring, sometimes it's deppresing, joyful other times, always productive. I do it more often when I read a book, read about 30 pages then the thoughts start flowing.

Thinking about all the old ladies rage knitting a scarf (it’s me, I’m the old lady)

When you're upset about something:
"SHOES! I AM COMING FOR YOU!"

I like to cook when I’m feeling like shit. I get to chop stuff with knives, move my hands, and I get to eat something I made. I’m glad this is actually helping me though, and not some coping mechanism. It’s nice to know I can take care of myself sometimes.

I feel like the effectiveness of this method depends on the person.
Personally, if I have a fight with somebody and engage into such an activity, my mind will keep on finding arguments to justify why I’m right to be mad at the person and I’ll get more and more angry.
It doesn’t seem very healthy in that case.

I do this literally all the time when I get frustrated and didn’t even realize it, Hahahaha, whenever someone pisses me off or I need to step away from a conversation I go do some nothing task like laundry or brushing my teeth or something, it helps a ton

Doing something stupid with my hands is what made me upset in the first place 😭

I spent a week in a Crisis Center and they didn’t allow us to use erasers without supervision. It was reasonable, but silly when you learn you can keep pencils in your room. Not to mention they sharpened those puppies to a needle point. Interestingly enough, erasers were still the only way the other patients would harm themselves to my knowledge.
