The more i hear about non-binary, the more i'm confused. I get the meaning more as a viewpoint than an identity. I've never understood the concept of gender (outside of biological sex) and this movement of claiming non-binary identity has just made it even more difficult for me to understand it. I'm all for widening the options for gender expression though.

I'm part of the LBGT community, and i'm honestly trying to get non-binary but I admit I can't... i get biological sex, and i understand the concept that society made up gender roles and stereotypes like, boys should wear blue and girls pink--- and that makes no sense, but.... shouldn't the fight be about breaking those notions instead of creating more neutral-umbrella terms? "yes i'm a boy that loves makeup and wear dress, " so what? "yes i'm a girl that has a shaved head pink dress and loves football and beer" good for you... You only don't feel like a boy or girl because you don't identify with those stereotypical things, be proud of your gender expression regardless of your biological gender. I just don't see the need to use more labels, more boxes that only separate us further and increases the notions of what a man or woman should be, and the ones that don't fit in need to be called something else... idk... maybe one day i'll get it

This didnt help me understand why people around me are calling themselves non binary, non means not or not of and binary in simple terms means two, so not 2 is what people are saying, and all it does is make me wonder what they are talking about and why do they feel the need to express this idea to me.

I think it’s important to remind people that you don’t have to understand us to respect us. I honestly don’t care if you “get it”. My gender is what it is regardless of what you think. Also I’m not nonbinary because I was a tomboy growing up or whatever. I was actually a girly girl as a kid and still am very feminine. I’m nonbinary because when I’m by myself gender isn’t a thing. I’m just me and that doesn’t include gender. My experience isn’t every nonbinary person’s experience but I don’t see about people sharing experiences like mine.

Hi, I'm Jax, they/them. I wore two sports bras yesterday for six hours
The day before, I did 150 wall push ups and I noticed my collarbones felt weird. I'm an exteremly paronoid person and while I was doing the exercises, my collarbones felt like that I only started the double sports bras last night after the wall push ups, and I'm not sure if my collarbones hurt cuz of that. Is it bad to wear two sports bras? When I went to d&d, it got hard to breathe so I took one off. Did I damage my chest?

Since, as a trans person, I know that this is a bit confusing, I think I could try to explain it the best I can, if you're willing to listen. Being non-binary is having an identity that does not align with 'girl' or 'boy', not as much rejecting the stereotypes that are associated with the genders 'boy' and 'girl', but instead not identifying with being either one. Unlike being a feminine man or a tomboy, they don't feel content or compfortable with the pronouns 'she' and/or 'he', or being called a 'woman' or a 'man'. They feel more content and/or comfortable being referred to as a person, or using they/them or other pronouns. This can still change depending on who you ask because different people have different experiences, but the one thing that they can all agree on is just the fact that they don't identify with feminine or masculine labels (woman, girl, lady, womanhood, "she/her", man, boy, "he/him") and do identify with just being called a person, and/or using they/them or other gender non conforming pronouns. If you have an questions, I wholeheartedly would love to answer them and help you understand if you truly do want to, however I know I can't force you to.

I’m not fully understanding this because what you are saying is non binary is based on the stereotypes of gender.I was born a female and identify as a female. I don’t “slot cleanly” as you put it into gender stereotypes but I am still a female.

I thought that not liking stereotypically female or male things was normal. I didn't know you don't identify as a girl just because you like to wear boys clothes. There's something called a tomboy. And boys can wear girls clothes if they want to. But this doesn't mean they have a different gender. This non-binary thing is just enforcing the stereotypes even more than before. You're basically saying that anybody who is not following the gender norms for their gender is automatically considered non-binary. I just don't get it
