What is non binary?

What is non binary? What does non binary mean? For that matter, what does binary even mean? Perspectives about what is means to be non binary, from a nonbinary person :)

Honestly, no, this doesn’t help. I’ve been trying to understand this contemporary concept of “gender” for a long time, and I keep landing at a dead end.

If the differentiation between male and female isn’t physical, then what is it? I’m told it has nothing to do with presentation, names and pronouns, attraction, clothes, hobbies etc. either.

So what is it?

I’ve asked this a lot, and it always comes back to what a person “feels like.” But how can you feel like something that isn’t defined in the first place?

You lost me after 1:25. Non binary sounds like it has more to do with clothes whereas cis and trans has more to do with being Male or female.

Not all men are manly men some are compassionate and more sensitive,
Not all women are girly girls some are strong-willed independent women.

That being said these just characteristics and personalities, I don't think it effects gender, but that's just my opinion.

Okay I’ve just had my two close friends turn non binary (we’re 14) and I don’t want to hurt them by asking questions or judging them but I’m really confused so I’ll do it here instead. This might sound transphobic so if you’re sensitive about it please don’t read.
Why do people nowadays choose their “gender” when it’s not something you can choose anyway? Like whether or not you call it however you want, or you “feel like it “, in the end of the day you can’t hide it at some point, can you?. Why did we make something that was purely scientific have nowadays become social and in most cases trendy?? And, isn’t lgbtq+ about “being who you are”? Then why people choose to escape from a gender just because of how they feel about it?Why? Can’t a female be masculine or vice versa? If it mostly judges the genders from the stereotypes about them then doesn’t it go against the principles of accepting yourself the way you are, so the whole lgbtq+ principles?
Please be respectful in your replies I’m really just saying how I truly feel I can’t act like it’s nothing at this point.

I just realized everyone who needs these labels doesn't view gender as biology but "what is a stereotype of a man or woman" and therefore, everyone alive is non-binary, including people who don't bother with such stupid labels

You're gender is is not how you feel, that's call your personality. Gender is a fact, you can change your personality and how you want to express yourself but that doesn't mean your gender is different.

Hi Ashley. I seems to decide what I do by what is beneficial to me (for example decide what to wear by how much stuff a coat can carry) along with old habits. Would you consider me a gender non-conforming person, or would you consider me still a mostly male person, since even though I try to not judge something by its maleness or femaleness, maleness-associated (as seen by others) options turns out to be what I'm used to most of the time, because I'm more familiar with them for I'm raised as a boy?

What If I'm not necessarily uncomfortable with my physical gender? Like let's say I'm born with male parts and I'm fine with those parts but I don't necessarily feel masculine all the time, but I don't feel female either. Is that still non binary? Or is that something else? Also.... Would I still need to pick a gender neutral name and all that or is it okay to keep my birth name. I'm honestly confused

I Need Help pls ! I say I'm gender fluid but then I'm like well agender fits 2 and I need help . So if anyone knows can you help? . This is something I sort of struggle to understand. I really do have an open mind when it comes to the way that people choose to live their lives. Many women work in what are typically considered to be masculine fields and many men work in what are considered to be feminine roles. Men and women both dress to appear as the opposite gender, with many going through reconstructive surgeries to have the genitals and breast of the desired sex. Where my mental conflict lies is that even if you choose to live your life as a different sex you were born as, that doesn't really change the basic facts.
