How to test and replace an EVAP Canister Purge Valve. This is something you may be looking at if you have an EVAP trouble code, such as P1456 or P1457 EVAP Control System Leakage.
What does the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) system do and what is an EVAP Canister Purge Valve - The EVAP controls minimize the amount of fuel vapor escaping to the atmosphere. Vapor from the fuel tank is temporarily stored in the EVAP canister until it can be purged (expelled) in to the engine and burned.
The EVAP canister is purged by drawing fresh air through it. The purging vacuum is controlled by the EVAP canister purge valve, which is open whenever the engine coolant temperature is above 149 degrees F.
