How to test and replace a car or truck immobilizer unit.

►► Tools:

How to test and replace an immobilizer unit. We will look at the fuses for the immobilizer unit, the dashboard bulb for the immobilizer and the wiring used for the immobilizer unit. Although these are not very difficult to replace the hurdle lies having the immobilizer paired to the ignition key. That will require the dealership or a very good locksmith. Hope this helps!

I usually do not comment on videos but Sir, this is one excellent video. I love the step-by-step, even the way you showed where the dial should be on the tester. Well done!!!

Well I sure hoping this short video will help me fix my problem that my 2006 Honda Acura is having. Which by the sounds and looks of it you apparently know a great deal about vehicle . So I feel I'm in good hands to go ahead and order immobilizer so that I can get my car back up and running . I want to thank you so much for taking the time to make this short helpful video to show everyone step by step to check everything before taking and going out and buying parts that will be possibly may or may not be needed. So once again thank you very much for that helpful video .

On my 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee I had a dead battery after two years and I accidentally remove the positive cable thinking it was the negative cable and some kind of pump started coming on like the ABS pump. Anyway something caught on fire -there was smoke coming out of the fuse box. Well I got a new battery, got everything hooked up and the security Key light came on the dashboard. Thank you for your comment about pulling fuse for PCM. It looked OK till I got a magnifying glass and sure enough there was a break in the wire. I put a new fuse in and everything is working. Somehow a dead battery and then re-charging it it had a short in it somewhere that fried that fuse. Thank God it was just a fuse. Now the SKIM recognizes my key.

Great video, very helpful. Can I ask, when you took the immobiliser off, was that the transmitter that was attached to it? I've been advised I may have to replace mine 🙄

Very excellent video. My issue is the immobilizer light on my 99 Honda Accord continues to blink and the engine cranks but will not start. I've only checked for bad fuses so far.

The moment you said that if the immobilizer light is not coming on it could be a fuse, I checked these fuses with my multi meter, and although the fuse looked ok, It wasn't. Replaced the fuse and all is ok. You saved me a lot of headaches, thank you.

What part of the circuit was the Continuity Test actually testing?
Yes you had continuity in a wire, but I could not make out what purpose that wire was serving?
