Brita Water Pitcher Filter Review: Is It Worth It?

I have been looking for a water filter that isn't very expensive and does a good job. The most effective water filtration system is a Reverse Osmosis system, but it creates waste water in the process and I am not a fan of wasting water. I found a Brita Water filter pitcher at Costco and wanted to test it. In this video I test the filtration efficiency by measuring the TDS levels in PPM using my TDS meter. Let's also see how it performs against my MWF GE Refrigerator Filter.

FYI - The GE MWF filter is rated for 6 months of use and when I tested it in this video, it had about 3 months of use. The first day I used the GE MWF Filter it decreased PPM levels to 270, but two days later they increased to 330 and could only get it lower if I dumped out one cup of water every single time I poured water. The Brita pitcher decreased PPM levels to 270 on the first day and one week later (first pour) it shows 276 PPM.

The Brita filter is cheaper, filters consistently, and because it is in the fridge it keeps your water cold. The downside is having to refill the pitcher. I usually refill the pitcher almost every time I pour myself some water.

the slower the filter the better it is

IT doesn't filter lead. I would recommend if you are using from the tap to let the water run for about 2 minutes before collecting.

Thanks for the "tests". If you want more water faster get the larger Brita, 1.13 gallons. I fill mine up when it gets about 2/3 empty and it's ready the next time I go back to use it. It's very convenient! I use it for iced tea water, for Crystal Light water, etc. and I put that container in the fridge so it's always cold. Better than drinking soft drinks all summer, and cheaper too!

Interesting. I came here for confirmation. Been using one of these for a few months now. I can tell just by smelling what comes out of the tap vs. the Brita. Huge difference. Can't believe I was drinking it unfiltered for years.

It should be slow while it goes throught the filtering process or the contaminants will not be filtered.

The one I had said to also let soak for 10 minutes.... But I'm confused about how high to fill the pitcher. like all the way? or just to the bottom of the filter Base😊

Our water is supplied from a municipal well. It has an odd taste that I just can't stomach. We had been buying plastic bottle water for drinking, and were considering a reverse osmosis system. Friends and family kept talking about how well the Brita filters work, but I was always skeptical.

My wife finally talked me into buying a Brita at Costco. I was surprised at the tremendous improvement in taste of our water, and I will now stop buying bottled water.

Our refrigerator also came with a water filter that I never installed, so I will have to try that out too.

Happy customer.

I can’t seem to get the filter in securely. I line up the filter with the grid, push firmly, but it still does not grip and water goes down the sides of the filter.

You think that's slow? Wow. Try using Clearly Water filters. They are slow, but that means it's working and filtering correctly.

Some of the skinnier versions the handle stays on the pitcher when taking it apart. Some the whole white part comes off. In mine that is skinny in width and 2 years old the white part of the handle stays on and the rest of it snaps out to clean inside.

when it drips it only takes a minute man! lol it means its doing its job =) great video btw! ive got a Brita pitcher and "felt" like it was cleaner and taste better than tap, and generally (almost like subconcionslyl) felt it was healthier. Now i know i was right!

I went to Target today and bot a pitcher for $25 and Target's compatible filters 2 in a box for $10. You don't need to insert in the grooves. I am guessing you keep the filter in the pitcher. I am not pressing the timing device. Mucho Gracias for your informative video. I read on the internet Brita pitchers plastic are BPA free.

the filter drops in the water some black particles. Are they good for human organism?

This is only a ppm test, which only tests generally the change in conductivity of the water due to ionizing components or possibly metals mixed in the water. It doesn't test for bacterial problems, although it may act as an indicator in some cases due to their waste products etc. Which is probably why big water companies haven't taken down this video yet, although I'm sure the channel master already got some "contact" from them to suggest such things.

This has convinced me to continue drinking purified drinking water and out of buying a Brita filter. I thought this would compare well with bottled water but I see that it is almost as bad as tap water so what is the point?

I have a question I bought a Brita filter and I want to know how high I can fill the water up. Will it damage my filter and my water if I fill it up to high? I use the fill line and fill it to the fill line 2 times in one sitting.
