About:
In this video, we investigate the effectiveness of popular Brita Elite and PUR Plus water filter pitchers in removing contaminants from tap water. We partnered with a certified lab to analyze pre-filtration and post-filtration water samples. Our tap water contained concerning levels of fluoride and uranium, exceeding recommended Health Guideline Levels. Neither Brita nor PUR filters are certified to remove these contaminants, and our testing confirmed they were ineffective. This highlights the importance of testing your water before choosing a filter, as water quality varies greatly depending on location and source. We discuss how different filtration technologies target specific contaminants, and activated carbon filters used in Brita and PUR may not address your specific needs. The video explores the filters' performance on various contaminants, including chlorine, phosphorus, barium, copper, strontium, molybdenum, nitrate, calcium, magnesium, and sodium. We found that while both filters effectively removed chlorine, their performance on other contaminants differed. Brita and PUR pitchers might not be the best solution for everyone and we recommend testing your water to choose the right filtration technology for your location and tap water quality.

It's a water FILTER but not a water PURIFIER. It only filters certain deposits that are harmful. We still need the minerals in water.

I've had a Brita for years and it's great. Water tastes so much cleaner.

Tucson used to have great tasting tap water. It was well water which tapped into an ancient aquifer. But, since the early 90s our primary water source came from the Central Arizona Project (CAP). It's a canal system that brings water from the Colorado River overland (and uphill) to cities and farms in southern Arizona. It is heavily treated before being piped to homes. The water tastes terrible even after using pitcher systems. What I've done for the past 5 years is to get 5 gallons of RO water from instore systems from Sprouts or Whole Foods. Five gallons is usually about three bucks. But, RO water has kind of a slight "tart" or sterile taste. So, I started using a Britta pitcher. The activated charcoal filter "mellows" out the harsh taste of the RO water. I drink a lot of just plain water. Usually around three liters a day. Taste makes a difference. I still boil pasta or make rice with tap water. But, that's about it.

Thanks for the filter reviews.

Nah mine tastes so much better. Worth it for that alone

The high reduction rate of Copper is interestiing since the standard Brita filter is rated for that but the Elite which you tested isn't.

Water quality can be quite sketchy, particularly out west with mineral content or in old urban areas with the possibility of heavy metals.
We've used the Brita pitchers for years because our coffee and iced tea taste much better when we use the "filtered" water.

Always enjoy the videos! I do use the Brita Elite at home, I feel it's a pretty decent Filter. We do have pretty good water here Uranium <0.0005-0.0006 ppm Flouride 0.10-0.28 ppm nothing to crazy.

I live in an area where tap water is clean enough to be drinkable straight from the source, so Brita mostly helps me to improve the flavor and filter whatever garbage would manage to get into water on its way to me from the local depths. For these tasks I believe it does a fair job.
Also how the hell does URANIUM get into your local water supply? 💀

I purchased Brita because is less expensive and less harmful to the environment than buying bottle of waters. It does not leave any type of flavor in the water. I think it works well for me

I filter tap water using a Brita filter that is only a few days old, then I boil it in a clean kettle. However, the water turns extremely cloudy after boiling. What could be the reason?

What are the top three water filter pitcher? Based on filtering out majority of elements in tap water?

Awesome material and information. We just overhauled our hot water tan and installed a softener system due to a public statement from our water provider of a leak that has been happening for years. I'm now looking for a more in depth filtering system for the whole house.

Hello, hope this is not a silly question but does any type of brita filters VOCs in water, cos am thinking of getting a distiller but heard they don't filter well with VOCs, so looking for a cheap filter like brita to filter tap water first then distill after. Thanks

I bought the Varify water test kit on Amazon as I don’t want to spend so much money on a kit. Is there a cheap option like under $50 you could recommend that’s better than Varify?

What's the best pitcher filter from your experience in testing whatever you have till now?

Best = The one that filters out the most contaminants.

Could you please tell me how I send my water to be tested

Run it through the Brita filter first then run the Brita water through the Pur one. Check your aerator rubber washers and hoses to your faucet for internal degradation and replace if needed. That stuff is really cheap.

Thoughts on this I am running my tap water through two Brita Elite filter pitchers then taking that water and filling my Waterdrop K19 countertop system with it. It’s easier to fill the system this way and I feel like I am taking less stress off of the RO system. In my opinion the water tastes way better than just putting the tap water into the RO system. Would love to here your thoughts on this and maybe make a video seeing if it makes a difference in the lab testing by combining the systems together? Thanks!
