Have you ever lost a beloved when you were a child, or later as an adult? Remember the pain and sorrow you felt, that you couldn't explain to anyone who didn't really understand what that dog meant to you.

Dogs are constant companions, protectors, comforters, playmates and reliable listeners when the world is not going your way and family life is stressful. For only children the dog is their other half and it's traumatic to lose - it's as if nothing will ever be the same again, and your zest for life lost it's oomph.

This video tells 2 stories: one about a husband and father who lost the dog that he had grown up with since childhood. He denied the dogs illness as a way of avoiding the idea of loss. His mourning was traumatic. The second story is about an only child who lost his precious dog and how his family at their wits end to get their son out of his depression sought my help as a psychologist and found a way to grieve and mourn as a family, whilst giving their son pride of place in setting up mourning rituals and memorials in the house and garden. They ensured that their son wasn't traumatized and could talk about grief, loss, death and getting another dog in due course.

Learn about how to mourn the special loss of beloved dog and other pets that mean so much to you and your children.
