Tania Diggory, founder and director of Calmer. This video shares some important information on the 5 stages of burnout.
What is burnout?
Burnout is the loss of meaning in one's work, coupled with mental, emotional, or physical exhaustion as the result of long-term, unresolved stress.
Burnout can affect anyone, however there is a growing number of entrepreneurs, business owners, and freelancers who are reporting symptoms of burnout - up to 60% in the UK.
Burnout can affect anyone, at any time in their lives. However, burnout is most common in people between the ages of 25 and 44. Our blog is inspired by Winona State University’s burnout study, as well as our own psychological research.

As with any illness, symptoms of burnout change from person to person, however these five stages are commonly observed:
Stage 1 - The Honeymoon stage - you feel excitement at your new venture.
Stage 2 - Early onset of stress- knots in your stomach and fluctuating mood swings. Low levels of stress.
Stage 3 - Longer periods of unresolved stress. Chronic stress.
Stage 4 - Burnout - mental and physical exhaustion. Loss of meaning in your work. You have reached your limits. In can take months to recover from this stress.
Stage 5 - Habitual burnout.
When you are experiencing the symptoms in Stage 2-4 - you must start to listen to your body.
There is always a way out and you can reverse the symptoms.
