What is BitLocker and BitLocker recovery?

BitLocker is the Windows encryption technology that protects your data from unauthorized access by encrypting your drive and requiring one or more factors of authentication before it will unlock it.

On one of my laptops I was having problems and needed to do a back-up and wipe the machine. Suddenly I got the blue BitLocker screen that required a recovery key. Until then I knew nothing about a recovery key or BitLocker. For several days I bounced between BitLocker and Microsoft support. They both pointed me back to the other.

Ultimately, I paid money for a shop to just wipe my computer clean. I could even get into it to back up anything. Everything was gone.

i have turn off encryption and then shut down the laptop. after this a want to use it and drive (D:) already gone and must to format before using it, and when i start it i have no clue why i cant find bitlocker recovery blue screen, i want to turn on the encryption again and waiting in progress... im so scared if my data got lose... anybody have solution?

Laptop didn’t even have issues, I installed nothing on it but randomly it just decided that the secure boot policy had changed (it hadn’t) and locked me out. Be a shame if i needed it that day and didn’t have immediate access to my recovery key

Hello, I ran bitlocker on one of the drives of my PC . The recovery key was generated but its identifier does not match the PC identifier . Is my recovery key good ? How can i check that it is the good one? Thanks

1. Does encrypting my main hard mean I have to use a recovery key each time I sign in to my computer?
2. If I turn on BitLocker on a secondary drive does that mean when I try to save files or other programs try to save/read/edit any files in there would be blocked or password required?

I'm asking because I don't wanna to be constantly bothered to type in a password each time to gain access to the drive to do anything. And if I'm downloading games to steam to that drive I don't want it to be blocked or prompted with a password.

to whoever having issue with finding bitlocker key, my keys were stored in a different account not on the microsoft account ı was using on my pc. if you are also having trouble finding it check every account you have, in my case ı found the key under one of my gmail accounts.

I was trying to update my bios and it said to temporarily disable the bit locker and make sure I got that key saved somewhere. Anyway I did what 1:25 said to do, tapped on manage bitlocker and then the option didn’t work so I reopened the start menu only to find it disappeared and when I tried to find it in control panel manually it’s just not there anymore. Any ideas?

hi i got problem with my acer laptop running windows 10, and recently having bluescreen error and restarts. but it continues restarting after bliescreen. can not enter windows again.
i asked for bitlocker recovery evertime reboots, i have enter the key, but when loading windows, the bluescreen always appear and the system reboots. this is frustating. all of my working data is now inaccessible. please help

I need serious help. Not that long ago, I've been a reset on my computer and chose to keep my files. All of a sudden, I'm not able to see the Microsoft Store. I've tried everything, looking in apps and features, using commands and so on but nothing had happened. It just won't appear anywhere. I've done another reset and chose to keep my files once again to see if it'll hopefully work but nothing.

Now when I looked for Bitlocker recovery key, nothing is found in my account. What should I do next? All my academic notes n even my reserch work is saved there. I can't afford to lose it.
