If you also want to save your data, install Bitlocker to Go on your system and encrypt your personal files. In this video, we have talked about the detailed procedure to encrypt any external USB drive using Bitlocker to Go. So, watch the video and you’ll be able to encrypt your USB drives without any hassle. Also, to see similar updates in the future, don’t forget to subscribe to Wondershare Recoverit.
You can assign a recovery key to the USB drive and ensure no one could access its content without proper authorization. Keep in mind that Bitlocker to Go is only available for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. So, in case you’re using any earlier version of Windows, you won’t be able to run Bitlocker to Go on your system whatsoever.

I guess it's left to me to explain what he did not.

For those of you that who have watched this video and are confused as to how he was able to recover data from an encrypted drive, here you go.

The answer is pretty simple, he didn't, the first half of the video is explaining how to encrypt your drive and then once he starts the second half he decrypts the drive so it no longer is protected by a key.

Generic recovery tools are not designed to deal with encrypted drives. If you're drive is encrypted you cannot get the data off of it without the key.

That aside, if your drive is encrypted and you need the date off of it but don't have the key there is still a way to get the data off the drive. MIT did a, for lack of better term demonstration, where they took a clone of a drive and tried to brute Force the key. Once the drive was locked out for too many attempts they just made a new clone of the drive and picked up where they left off. Eventually finding the right key.

This is such a Disingenuous and Misinforming Video. You can't unlock or recover files from a locked/encrypted drive. We are a few years away from having that technology.

so either Bitlocker sucks at securing data or your software is BS.... which one is it?

You can't recover a disk that is encrypted, what are you on about 🤨
If you decrypt the disk before than yes. If you lose your Encryption Key... Good luck!

What's the point of BitLocker if your software can easily recover the files

I'm running Win 11 Pro. I have Bitlocker enabled on my system. I'm trying to use BitLocker to Go to encrypt some flash drives. When I right click on the flash drives I don't get the same options he does in the video. Even if I click on "Show more options", I don't get "Turn on Bitlocker" as an option. The USB is formatted in NTFS. Any ideas?

Thankyou. Being able to password protect a usb drive could be very useful. I have trued a few third party programs but these have failed and been buggy. Using exusting Windows features siunds good.

Does anyone know if It's possible to Encrypt a "Windows to Go" bootable USB drive?
i.e: Can you use BitLocker to Go (or Veracrypt etc) to encrypt a USB drive upon which a clone of my OS is already installed via Windows to Go?..

I've searched around a bit on Google, but no luck finding an answer so far. Any Info much appreciated, cheers :)

So if I lose my flash drive someone can just use the recovery option to get access to my stuff??

For those wondering, Rocoverit can restore deleted files from an encrypted drive so long as you know the password or have the recovery key. It CANNOT restore anything if you forgot your password. They leave that part out either on purpose or mistakenly.

Does this work on other PC's and Laptops or with any device after the encryption ?
