Story 1: This friend needs to pay these bills immediately or else go to claims court and have the judge force this "friend" paying the bills for the damages that she caused. She literally lied to OP's face and the mother shouldn't overreact at all because of this. Seriously those dogs could have died if they got into anything poisonous and that would be a death sentence when it comes to someone's dogs. It's just so messed up that the mother and the so called friend think it's all right to not worry about it. Dogs are not just considered pets they are considered a part of the family regardless of what anyone else says.

Story 1: Doesn't she have grounds to sue? She left with the knowledge that her house was going to be looked after and was lied to. Animals almost died because she lied and didn't bother to tell anyone there were dogs left alone. The state of the house was unacceptable too, she didn't even check on the house.
I really think that OP is taking too much of the blame onto herself. Her only mistake was trusting a disgusting human being.

Story 1: Okay, i say screw the "friend" and screw the mom here too. How on earth is this an over-reaction? It isn't! The dogs did all that damage because they were likely bored and/or panicing... and not just them too. No one in the house meant the trash wasn't taken out and resulted in maggots. This is all just crazy. As for the "friend" here, she is a scumbag, and i wouldnt use the excuse that she was overwhelmed or anything. She lied plain and simple and if i were the OP, i would be looking at legal options here. This former friend should not be allowed to get away with any of this here. At least im glad to hear that the dogs survived and are doing better.
Story 2: No way is the OP a jerk here.. the cousin is and anyone no her side. First off, i think the whole cosplaying idea with this dress is a great idea. Second, the cousin turned her nose at the used dress and pretty much mocked it.... so why should you give her this dress, especially since you did a bunch of alterations to it. She doesn't deserve it in the least. Good on the OP's gf for standing up for the OP. I would just continue to tell the cousin and the family off here, and hope that the OP and the gf enjoy the conventions they attend.
Story 3: No way is the OP a jerk, and if i were the OP here, i would've threatened to annual the marriage if they were so insistant on wedding photos here. The OP was very clear on no wedding photos. Regardless of whatever reason, cant people understand "No means NO"? The MIL and the husband here really shouldve taken a clue here. The OP by no means let anyone down here.. the husband and in-laws did. Also, i dont care if the MIL has any mental health issues or not... dont let that be an excuse to have your boundaries ignored. At least things worked out in the end, but i wouldnt be forgetting it either.
Story 4: Ohh man, can i ever relate to this story. Although not re-entering the work force, my late father was almost exactly like the OPs mom here. Just couldnt (or wouldnt) accept that times have changed and cant do things they way they did. Walking up to a place or calling them just does not work anymore... especially if they tell you not to call, and just apply online. I know my dad tried to tell me and convince me to constantly walk-in or call, but i didnt because i knew the reaction i'd get. The mom here is definitely getting major karma here, and i wouldnt really want to help or support her here.

What kind of pathetic adult can't house sit and feed dogs. All she had to do was feed them, let them out to go to the bathroom and keep them from destroying her house. She didn't even ask for help when she decide not to do it anymore. Honestly, she should sue her.

This..this is why I trust my mom and her godkids to look after all four of my dogs (yes, I have four). What kind of person has the mental gymnastics to lie to their friends face, neglect the dogs, which are basically family, while they are out, never take the trash out when they clearly could've at any point, and then get mad at their friend over something that could've been easily avoided had they just did what they said would do? And the mom? She doesn't know what OP felt at all. Imagine this:

You're about to go on a week-long trip to Hawaii, hundreds of miles away from your pets and home, spending thousands to get the tickets, and you trust someone to look after the house while you're gone. You come back home after the trip, and the house is a mess. Poo and pee litter the floor, furniture is ripped apart or downright demolished, and flies have taken keen interest in your trash that never got taken out, and was instead worsened and left to rot.

I wish OP would've asked their mother how she would feel if she left for a vacation, only to have to come home early because the person she trusted didn't do the simplest of things.

Story 1: nah that 'friend' sucks. She made a promise about having someone to look after the dogs. Because of her lie op and her kids would have been coming back to dead dogs if op hadn't checked the cameras. I'd never forgive her and would definitely sue for damages. The friend could have easily checked on the dogs herself if she really cared about op

As for the last one, personally I feel that mom not being able to get a job, I have been in farming for 30+ years and l wanted to find a slightly easier job for my old body (50M) but at least she is getting answers back saying that they won't hire her, I put out at least 2 a week, luckily I have a friend who is letting me work part time on his farm, odd jobs- weedeating, sacking corn, loading trailers with square bales of hay, but I never even get a response from the jobs I applied for 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
