Complex Trauma Limits Creativity and Ability to Handle Changes

A developing brain in survival mode may result in several limitations. These include things like dreaming of the future, being creative, or being able to make significant changes. Since survival and safety trumps all, many people from Complex Trauma report these limitations or similar growing up, and even may still recognize it today in adulthood.

You got that right. Now after REACT I am finding great hobbies, new doors. I’m sure this is best done at ages5 -7-8-12 ! I did not even know how to sing. I’m now singing.

Thank you thank you! I’ve always felt so WRONG for never knowing what I wanted to do when I grow up. I’m in my 70’s and still don’t know. At least I’m beginning to come out of the freeze state I’ve lived in my whole life, so at least that’s something. Thank you for validating my experience. No one ever has. And thank you for explaining so I could understand the reason I’m different from others (in that I’ve never had any ambition or known who I wanted to become.) This is HUGE. Once our eyes are opened and we separate I think we (I) can start to do that….to figure out what my creativity is and how to express it. Never too late even at age 68

Yeah i really felt this. When i was younger i would pick up hobbies in the arts but I’d end up trying to get love and safety through those hobbies instead of it being a creative outlet. Like i played the trumpet in a school band and i really enjoyed that, but it developed into an obsession of “how do i be the best trumpet player ever so that everyone in the band and outside will see and love meee”

It’s still something that comes up in my adult life now but I’ve gotten better at noticing it and self-regulating :)
