Does healing trauma increase creativity?

This latest video was inspired by a question I got from my social media feeds that went something like this:

“Does one need to be finished healing before you get access to creativity, or do you access it along the way?”

In this week’s video I answer this question and offer a few different ways of looking at it. I also share some quotes from others who have written about creativity. I had a lot of fun recording this video, and I hope it offers up some insight into the creative genius of humanity, and how it interacts and intersects with our nervous system, stored traumatic stress, and our healing journeys. ENJOY!

Resources I mention during this video:

► Healing a hurt soul and finding sovereignty with Chris Dierkes

► [Trauma Tips #2] Get to know your (many) nervous systems

► How to harness the power of neuroplasticity. A train track metaphor

► Functional Freeze Explained

Thanks so much for this Irene, really helpful. I've been in therapy for 4 years in total, over 1 year in biodynamic body psychotherapy, and have found that I have moved away from the space of creative juices flowing as a result of defiance, using survival energy, but haven't yet come into the place of being fully present in my body, so I find myself being unable to currently access my creative side. As a practicing artist this is incredibly frustrating and I feel like a shell, but I have faith that I will continue to heal and move to a place of developing a new, positive body-led creative practice.

My creativity has been in Lockdown for the past 6 months! I think I need to love on my inner child. I’ll also re-read Julia Cameron and see if that helps . Useful video . Thanks.

it's basically finding our method of getting our executive/thinking brain out of the way so we can get into that 'altered state' of flow - unfortunately most of us learn the unhealthy means of altered states first
