The Best New York Deli is in New Jersey: Fiore’s

Показать описание
John Amato, Jr. has taken over an old-school Jersey deli from his dad and uncles. John is the owner of Fiore’s House of Quality in Hoboken, an institution that’s been around since 1903. Fiore’s is known for its homemade mozzarella, as well as its Italian deli sandwiches featuring meats like mortadella, gabagool, and prosciutto. Staying true to his family’s original recipes, John’s philosophy is to keep things feeling like they did in the 50s: same recipes, same friendliness, and same vibes.

This guy is like Italian Clark Kent, took me half the video to realize it was the same dude in the shop but without his glasses 😂

The lighting of the Mozzarella Making segment was incredible.

Props to the videography.

For anyone that has seen the Teamsters Sandwich episode of 30 Rock, this is apparently the place it is based on.

Our entire NJ crew started hitting Fiores twice a week in 2000. We would show up with a caravan of cars and double park anywhere we could fit. You get in line. Grab your bread and wait to get your fresh mozz and beef with extra gravy. We were like savages. Those are some of the most memorable times. No social media, barely internet or email, flip phones, The Jersey Shore & The Sound Factory. You can't get more Jersey than that! God Bless NYC!

To the camera crew / editors : I wish this video had more color so we can actually see the true colors of the fresh foods being presented

Lived in Hoboken for almost 7 years and Fiore's is truly one of the last true old soul corner shops in a ever growing young city.
Must say, it's almost criminal the twice a week special Roast Beef and mutz wasn't mentioned once during this video because that sandwich alone deserves national recognition. It's true perfection!

Oh my goodness.... I used to work for Lourdes who is a descendent of the founder and opened a mozarella making operation in Boston (Fiore di Nonno, since closed) using the exact same techniques outlined in the video. I hadn't seen her in a decade, and I LITERALLY caught up with her yesterday. This makes me so happy to see!

As someone coming from an Italian family in NY who's owned deli's, pizzarias, and Restaurants, stories/vids like these are cool and all but the reality is it's a major stressful grind and incredibly hard way to make a living. Makes family life super tough and you basically have no life away from the biz. I respect anyone who can do it as long as this guy has and I also feel sad that people like him have to do it the way he's done it to get by. Hopefully he gets to retire and at least enjoy life for a few years at the end after all his hard work because lots of them don't make it to that point.

I've been and can confirm it's good. You gotta go in on specific days to get the roast beef sandwich with the au jus/french dip.

They have daily specials that most locals know. The roast beef is amazing. The Italian tuna with the mutz and garlic soaked peppers on a Friday is tremendous. Cash only! Before COVID you could choose your own rolls out the bin but long gone. Still the spot to go.

Da Mutz!
Legendary shop. Surprised they didn't show people selecting their own bread rolls. That's something I haven't seen in other Italian joints that makes Fiore's stand out. Also, the Roast Beef & Mutz is where it's at... and get the sandwich dunked! Here's to at least another 111 years.
