I am a pure math major at Southern Oregon University which is really just a small state school in Oregon. I am not graduated yet, but I only have a few classes left. All I have left is my capstone, one computer science class (which is required for pure math majors at my school), and a few more general education requirements. The math curriculum at SOU involves a good mix of applied and theoretical math classes. You will have to take several applied math classes such as calculus, differential equations, and statistics, so you will have background in those fields. You will also have to take several theoretical math classes such as an intro to proofs class, abstract algebra, and analysis. I have taken every math class in the pure math major except for my capstone. I think part of choosing a college major is also about choosing what is interesting to you, so if you are interested in pursuing a pure math major, by all means do it. Proof writing was actually the part of the math major I struggled with, so it's good that I won't really need it for my career. SOU also offers a financial math major which combines math and business and also a math and computer science co-major that combines math and computer science. I still don't know how employable I will be as I have not searched for jobs after graduation yet.

O well. There are not that many jobs in math. There are not that many jobs in music (witch is way I am only doing music on YouTube instead of studiyng it), but with both majors you should be able to get a desent job.

@Tiara I know it seems like proofs are only so useful... but you are wrong. When you really think about it, you already know this.
I know that's not what you said... but it is what you mean.

There is so much out there to prove... the question is:

What is the matrix?
;)
Good luck.

My nephew majored in math. He lives with his parents. My sister has life insurance. She said that neither her husband or son can take care of themselves.
