Unfortunately, most people don’t even know what all the options are.

Absolutely take the first offer you can get. You can explore options while getting paid. Getting a job is hard.

I have a Marketing degree. It’s not all fun and games. In fact, the cool stuff like making marketing plans or coming up with advertising campaigns, is done by senior level people. So you’ll still be in spreadsheets, just not as complicated as accounting spreadsheets.

Take the best offer but never stop looking for better opportunities...

Reminder to go to a college that actually offers the degree you want💀

I’m a CPA and absolutely love it. I left public accounting and work in private. Make 180k a year, work remotely as a Controller doing 40-45 hours per week. I’ve never been unemployed. I have other side gigs that explore my creative side but will always be thankful for the security my CPA licensing provides.

She got a job exactly for what she studied as soon as she graduated and somehow has an issue with that?

By the way kids go to school get a high paying degree use the money for your hobbies and interests. Stop listening to influencers who don’t tell you how they were set up after quitting.

I do extremely well as an accountant, it’s a nice stable in demand job, nothing to laugh about

Grab every opportunity you can get especially for job security. Not everyone will have the privelege to explore.

Please ignore this dogshit advice. Take the first job offer and keep applying for new jobs. A recruiter is much more likely to consider an applicant who already has a job, as it shows that the applicant is interested in the field and not just desperate for a paycheck.

You can switch from CPA to Marketing relatively easy but not the other way around.

You chose correctly with accounting. Job security moving into a recession will be the most important factor to someone’s success. Marketing departments have the highest turnover and usually are cut first above others when needed. Bottom line, I’d never take advise from someone in marketing, Accountants on the other hand, it’s literally our profession to give advise.

Btw kids, it is cool to secure something so early on. If it is what you want. But don't take something you don't want, because you're feeling pressured. Also, you can always switch after you take it. Apply to something else while you have a job, it's less pressure.

You got lucky your school didn’t have marketing. I got a marketing degree. I hate it. Marketing spends money to make more sales thereby more money. But it’s a money spender first. In times of need, marketing is first to go. It’s a crap degree. I wished I focused on accounting.

Her privilege is showing.... not everyone has a choice in their career. While she's out here making choices about where to work, other people are hustling to get a job in the first place. Not shitting on her, but it shows perspective of different starting points. Her advice only applies to a small group of people

Oh noooo, she got into a top college and got a good job. The world really is cruel. She might as well have been born intp a slave labour camp at a coltan mine in Congo. I see why there is sad music ocer this. 😭

As an accounting student, its really hard to understand the complexities of all the subjects, we had to learn; from auditing, taxation, law, accounting, information system, investments, management services and others. Concepts over concepts, all about money we had to learn them in order to compute the amount for every person to every businesses. So if you too plans to be a CPA, let's work our brains off! Anyways, I quite did a rant lol, peace

I graduated a year ago already and I'm still looking for just basic RETAIL JOBS and I cant find one. If I was presented with an opportunity to work in what I studied, I would take it. Money is needed to live.
