Why do you find a mother narcissist when she tries to stop her children from falling into bad habits like becoming alcoholic and addicted which you are calling controlling? Narcissistic is in my opinion, when a person gives complete love and sacrifice for that person whether that person is a spouse or friend. How come a mother can be a Narcissistic mother when she gives all her life to her child? In my opinion, what characteristics you do describe a Narcissistic person is stopping you from giving you boundless freedom in which one can choose even the things which can be harmful for his own self.
I don't wish to prove you wrong but every culture has different ways to deal with mothers. What you call controlling, in our society is respect by realising all the hardship their mother has gone through. They never remarry.
Please whenever you give detail about any psychological aspect then do point out the society you are talking about. As our kids don't know even this term because all they see are the sacrifices their mothers have made for them.
