For those wondering, the fish flakes are so light that the steam from the rice is what is causing them to move.

This dude’s love for natto is fascinating to me because I tried that stuff once and it felt like everything about it was trying to fight all of my sensory nerves.

Fun fact most raw eggs are safe to eat raw and it’s the shell on the outside that harbors the bacteria that can make you sick. The us just have really relaxed laws around farming unlike Japan where they are pretty strict about how chickens are kept, and the way you handle/ clean them.

for me, i like natto if you if you freeze it, open and place on cold rice, warm up in microwave, then add condiments and mix vigorously. Add green onion and some soy sauce, the smell can be reduced and tastes more earthy

Fun fact: you CAN eat raw eggs anywhere else... Salmonella comes from a chickens back side. So if you dont eat the shell and only the egg youll be fine...

This is a great way to start your day. After this, nothing can ruin your day, because it's already ruined.

I LOVE natto! I don’t normally have it with an egg yolk, but I imagine it’d add to the texture.

I worked in Tokyo for five years. I used to go over every month. I couldn’t believe how expensive everything was. It was absurdly expensive for food in a restaurant. I love the people in the culture.

About safety of raw eggs:
Some countries, e.g. USA and Japan, before selling, wash eggs with special mix of chemicals, that gets rid of all dangerous bacteries, like salmonella, so it's completely safe to eat them raw. Although in outcome those eggs also lose some layers of their shells, so they no longer can be kept outside of fridge for longer time.
Meantime, other countries, like, most of the world, sell eggs without that wash. Thanks to that, you can freely keep them out of fridge for days (as long as not exposed to the sun), and you can risk eating them raw, but they have way higher chance of being habitated by bacterias that would be killed in the chemical wash.
