How to: Natto | Breakfast Bowl

Last year, I started to eat natto for brekfast - and made it a part of my weekly diet. Natto is fermented soybeans that have a very sticky texture! Over the months, I've tried out many variations (some were too complex) - but these 3 simple recipes got me hooked. Try any of them out - and introduce more natto into your weekly diet.

Most fermented foods I’ve had, like kimchis, zhacai, yacai, or sauces like doenjang and sauce tofu, are so strong flavored. Natto’s mild flavor surprised me.

I am addicted to natto starting this year. I especially love natto on the toast. I normally put natto with green onion, melted cheese and ham. If I am feeling fancy, I make miso mayo sauce to spread it thinly on the toast, so goodd.

Store-bought natto smells like ground coffee beans and instant coffee too, for that matter. Weird. The best thing to mix into it is Kewpie Deep Roasted Sesame Dressing, just a small dollop and mix. I'd be so thrilled for just one person to try this and go 'WOW! Yeah!' But your suggestion of adding chopped avocado to my Kewpie Sesame Natto sounds even better, so I'd better level up tomorrow morning. ;)

You should try natto toast. It's the only way I can eat natto. The contrast in texture is great and you can add a fried egg or even cheese.

Totally agree. On my first try I nearly throw away the other two packs. After the third one I went out to buy another three... 😀

I really couldn't handle natto the first time. Then one time I was drunk at an izakaya, a friend ordered a squid and natto don for me and that definitely got me hooked. I eat natto for breakfast all the time now lol. I personally like it with the usual soy sauce and mustard packets and LOTS of black pepper!

That 3rd one feels very California. I bet it'd taste good with a little grated garlic and lime. I'll have to try it!

My Korean husband always says my food is delicious when I follow your recipes. We wanted to eat natto a few days ago so I searched Future Neighbor Natto Recipe but there was none! And funnily enough, now there is!

Yes, sir. I will give it another try. I've been avoiding natto ever since I heard "natto" from your channel.

It took me about 5 times of eating natto to start liking it. Now I crave it all the time! I like to add soysauce, Sesame oil, fukujinzuke, green onion, and furikake. Such a delicious meal for anytime of day!

The first time I had natto was an accident, I ordered a maguro hand roll in a very loud sushi restaurant and the chef misheard me. But I am polite so I ate it and I didn't hate it! Later I got some umeboshi (pickled Japanese apricot) and black vinegar natto at the Japanese market and that stuff is delicious.

I buy natto with pickled plum seasoning packet. I eat it almost every day over hot rice with some green onion, and a drizzle of sesame oil and soy sauce. 😋

I tried it once and really didn’t like it. Then I went to Japan and had it for breakfast every day and I’m in love, it’s so good! I’m actually prepping to make my own here at home. I hope it works!!!
