How long does it take to recover from Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery?-Dr. Prakash Mahadevappa

Laparoscopic Inguinal hernia surgery has made revolutionary changes in the management of inguinal hernia. About a decade back, inguinal hernia surgery entailed an open operation, which is used to take the patient to be hospitalised for a minimum of 2 to 3 days and sometimes had to be off work for almost about a week. Nowadays with this Laparoscopic hernia, which is now slowly recognized as a gold standard in the treatment of hernia, is a surgery, which enables the patient to recover very fast. The patient is usually admitted in the morning with all the preoperative investigations worked up. He undergoes the surgery and by afternoon, post-operative after a couple of hours after the surgery he will have his meal and by evening he is discharged. The patient probably requires about 24 hours to completely recover and return to his day to day activities and back to his office. This had changed the whole concept about hernia surgery and the recovery.

Bull. No one recovers completely from this type of surgery in 24 hours. You are living in a fantasy world.

I had bilateral laparoscopic inguinal surgery with mesh 8 days ago. I suppose that if someone had an office job that they could go to work the next day after this surgery. But my surgeon gave me instructions for the day after surgery to use a spirometry lung exerciser every 2 hours while awake, move feet while in bed and walk “short distances” (whatever that means). I was told that after 2 weeks I may do physical exercise at 50% effort and after 4 weeks I may exercise without restrictions. I must admit that the 3 days after surgery the abdominal pain was far greater than I had expected (I’ve had two other traditional inguinal hernia surgeries 20 years ago). I had to use 5 mg of Oxytocin to get to sleep at night. On day one I walked 3 miles, days two and three I walked 3 1/4 miles each. On day four I walked 5 1/4 miles. On days five, six and seven I walked 8 miles and started doing some easy calisthenics each day. I plan on continuing this easy walking and calisthenics until I see my surgeon next week. Truthfully this last week has been the longest week of my life. The areas ware the robotic arms entered my abdomen are sill slightly sore. The good thing is that inguinal areas feel great.
Good health!

I just had robotic and laparoscopic surgery for a right inguinal hernia which also required revision of appendectomy scar. It took me a good 3 full days to recover to the point where I could drive and sit for about an hour at a time. I don't see how any one could do this in 24 hours. I am 58, in good health with a BMI around 23.5 but, I think 4-5 days prior to working is a more appropriate recovery time if you work at a desk.

My hernia operation was two years ago. I still have inflammation in my testicle ?
When will this finally go away?

Had double hernia (bi-lateral) Jan 7 2021. I was sore, could only sleep on my back for about two and a half weeks. Pain was tolerable. Only used extra strength Tylenol or Aleve. It’s now seven weeks in. Feel better. Stomach where incisions were made is still a bit sensitive. Not pain med worthy. Lower area still sensitive but tolerable. Overall not to to bad. But I think full recovery will take a few more months barring any other issues.

In my case, this was NOT true at all, I am on day 11th still bleeding (not fresh blood) from middle and left hole on my stomach, I have BIG bruised genital which make it hard for me to sit on chair, I am very mad for these kinds of videos that show rose garden

I had a double inguinal hernia surgery two days ago. I experienced really heavy pain and pretty much could not walk at all the day after. Felt like I had been kicked by a horse. A Clydesdale. I'm taking oxycodone and alternating with tramadol and Tylenol. Day two I'm walking with a cane to the kitchen. I'm supposed to take it easy for a couple of weeks and no lifting for a month. In the next few days I would like to walk down the block, but I also want the incisions to heal up well. I'm no longer working, so I don't have to worry about that.

So after my surgery my Doc said, activity as tolerated.
Big Mistake! I went back to work after two weeks and we were painting. Felt like I busted my nut all over again.
Went back to Doc and got checked out 4 different times and Doc said I would heal up in 6 weeks. Well,
2 1/2 years later my testicle is still four times as large as my other one, sooo uncomfortable I went back to wearing a jock strap. Very disappointed in my surgeon, but he died and I can’t even go back now.
A Doctor shouldn’t be up all night drinking and then do surgery early the next day 🤦‍♂️ smh.
