Make no mistake - if you want to succeed at your muscle building goals then long term consistency is absolutely key.⁣

This isn't an excuse to skip workouts when you have no legitimate reason to do so.⁣

However, if you ARE staying relatively consistent in the overall picture, then taking short term breaks here and there really isn't something to stress out over.⁣

Whether it's due to injury, illness, a personal issue or whatever else, this is totally normal and happens to everyone at some point.⁣

It takes about two full weeks of inactivity for actual muscle loss to start kicking in, and even then it's a relatively slow process after that.⁣

And once you do return to the gym, you'll recoup any potential losses at a fairly quick pace due to the effects of muscle memory.⁣

So, train hard and stay as consistent as you can...⁣

But when those inevitable situations pop up that force you to take some time off, just take it in stride as part of the overall process and get back on track as soon as you reasonably can.⁣

Always remember:
Most Fitness people perpetuate their careers by convincing you that there are more problems and complexity to fitness than you can handle.

Studies have shown that deloading or completely taking a break for a week can have great benefits for your health, fitness, strength & gains.

OMG Perfect timing with this. I've had COVID for a week and lost mad weight. I can't wait to get back in the gym. Thank you man!

Perfect thing to hear rn. I been out the gym for almost 2 weeks now due to a blood vessel popping in my hand and I just been going through the motions hoping for the best.

Just to add something, your strenght on low rep ranges may go down after a 2 week of rest, even if no muscle loss happened due to a slight decline in technicall efficiency, regardless within a week or two you will be back to normal

I didn't hit the gym in over a year. Lost mass and when I went back I thought I'd be miles behind but I was shocked by how much strength I'd held on to and how quickly I was able to build back up. If you've put in the work in the past I think you'll be reaping those rewards forever, no matter how lax you get.

I really like how you give realistic goals and points instead of playing the mind games that some fitness influencers do

The mental game is the hardest part of training.

Sean keeps my mind right with his relentlessly honest perspective.

This is actually really reassuring for me, I’ve been sick with a lot of stuff for like 2 months and I thought I was going to lose my progress. So thank you, I needed to hear this.

You can literally train once a week and still retain most of your muscle through muscle memory. The human body is quite amazing

I found when I went back to the gym after a week or so “pause” I was stronger and had no joint issues . So now I take a week off every couple months

If you’re taking a complete break from any activity for certain period of time:
- Cardio respiratory performance begins to decline first (2-7 days of no cardio training)
- next will be muscular strength (2 weeks)
- very last will be skills learned for specific activity (years down the line)

The main reason I workout is to be fit and healthy for other recreational hobbies like hiking or mountaineering. So I very regularly pause my training for 1-4 weeks. And usually I feel that getting back at it after some time off, is very nice, because I feel very engergized and make quick progress.
