I remember the old timer plumbers that would lay out a full layer of plaster under the toilet, put the toilet over it then tighten it down. The excess would squeeze out the sides. Never an wobbles.

Anytime a toilet is moved the wax seal must be replaced, The wax ring could leak water and sewer gas (hydrogen). Call a pro.

It would still probably just leak below the floor instead of seeping to the back opening. *speaking from personal experience lol*

Never caulk your toilet never ever ever

The toilet had already compressed the wax seal! When you raise the toilet like this, the wax cannot magically uncompress. The toilet flush water will mostly fall into the hole of the plumbing and directed by what's left of the wax seal, but some will pass under the toilet where it will sit on the floor around the flange and rot it away for years to come - bigger repair down the road! If you ever see a toilet caulked to the floor big red flag!

Just use your finger and then the sponge for cleaning up the seam, a little edging tool is just extra

Your not supposed to caulk it you grout it with your tile and now it won’t wobble

We bought a house 15 months ago. Toilet had a leak, we replaced the wax ring seal, but the toilet was moving. We tried to fix it with wooden shims but it didn't work. We need more than 4, the previous owner had put the tiles by himself and he did horrible job. The floor is not leveled in many spots.
Now I know what to get, off to home depot.

Leaving opening in rear ONLY applies if wood floors / crawl space. Concrete slab it’s a moot point so seal her up!

Instead of shim you can use pieces of plastic bottles from shampoo or shave a shim with a knife from the edge of the plastic bucket and my personal preference is bright white bath and tub caulk to match with toilet.
Also I wouldn’t caulk it when installed over natural stone because caulk will stain it and if next toilet has smaller footprint you screwed

Never caulk around the toilet. You will not know its leaking untill the floor rots out.
