How To Add Optifine to a Modpack (CurseForge)

About this video: Optifine is one of the most popular Minecraft mods of all time. Sadly though, Optifine doesn’t allow itself to be included in Minecraft modpacks by default. It must be added in manually by players if they want it. Luckily, this isn’t overall too difficult to per se, but every Minecraft modpack is different. So, without anymore delay, here is how to add Optifine to CurseForge modpacks.

So the first thing that you need to do in order to add Optifine to your Minecraft modpack is see what version of Minecraft that the modpack you are play is running. To do this, go to your ‘My Modpacks’ section in CurseForge. Then, right-click on the modpack, and select View Profile.

You will be able to see the game version here. For example, this could be 1.20, 1.12, or 1.16. It really just depends on the modpack you want to add Optifine to. Make note of the game version that the pack is. Also note if it is a Forge or Fabric modpack. Fabric modpacks have an additional step that Forge modpacks don’t have.

Then, click the ‘Download Optifine’ link in the description. That will take you to our website. Here, click the ‘Download Optifine’ button to go to the Optifine download page. On this page, find the Minecraft version that is the same as your Modpack version. Click the mirror button, and the click the download button on the next page. With that, Optifine will start downloading for the version that your modpack is.

Now, we need to install Optifine to the modpack you want to add it to. Do this, by right-clicking on the modpack in CurseForge. Then, click ‘Open Folder’. The modpack’s folder will open where you will see a mods folder. Open that, and can drag-and-drop Optifine into it. You may also need to add a mod called ‘OptiFabric’, but you will only need to add OptiFabric if your modpack is a Fabric modpack. You can find OptiFabric in the description above.

At this point, Optifine has been added to your modpack. Now, it may not work. A lot of modpacks have their own graphic and visual mods built in, and thus, they won’t work with Optifine if you try to use it with them. In those cases, there isn’t anything that you can do. Some modpacks cannot have Optifine added to them at all.

If you do have issues, just remove Optifine from the mods folder of the modpack, and you are good to go just without Optifine.

In cursed forge if you right click and select 'Profile Options' you can change your forge version to be compatible with Optfine

Thank you! I didn't use the method in the video but it caused me to dig in my files and actually find a different way! It isn't compatible with the mods I'm using, but at least I was able to check

edit: I'm playing RAD 2 and found out OptiFine is not necessary to change the shaders (going by the fact I don't have it installed). Simply press "O" or find your keybind for "Shaderpack Selection Screen" and you should be able to change to a shader you have installed.

Just to mention, FPS/Rendering mods aren't the only ones that break Optifine.
Currently 3/August/2023, Minecraft version 1.20.1 and OptiFine HD U I6 pre6: "Create" mod and "Enchanced Celestials - Blood, Blue & Harvest" break Optifine with a bad injection.

for me when I add optifine for my own custom modpack, first of all it adds a mod called "LagFix Beta" and then when I launch the modpack, it crashed the game with exit code 1. Btw i didnt have any mods that would prevent Optifine from working. so idk what to do
