If you download optifine and it shows as a winRAR folder, you don't need to extract it or do anything, just do the same "open with" and click Java. I was confused thinking I needed to extract the files and find the actual optifine application or whatever, but the folder is the optifine application. Just wanted to comment on this in case anyone else was confused about it.

I'm trying to download this but I cannot get passed installing it into java. I have downloaded previous versions of optifine in the past so I am unsure what to do. I opened minecraft and even made a new world after updating. I get an error saying "cannot find minecraft 1.20.1. you must download and start minecraft 1.20.1 once in the official launcher" which I have done several times. hello im getting stuck on the part where optifine is not successfully installing because it says i haven't played ver 1.20.1 like you stated around the time stamp of 3:55 in your video. we are on 1.20.2 now and it seems that doesnt qualify maybe ? how can i run normal 1.20.1 minecraft so that it registers ?
