In this video, we go over some Optifine 1.21 alternatives if you don’t want to use this new version of OptiFine. After that, we go over how to get OptiFine 1.21.1 downloaded and installed.

The version of OptiFine we are installing in this video is not from the official Minecraft developer. It is from a new developer that has worked with the official OptiFine developer in the past. This is a change that was unexpected, but as OptiFine is the most popular Minecraft mod of all time, we wanted to a video on it in case you want 1.21.1 OptiFine. With that being said, let’s dive in to how to add OptiFine to Minecraft 1.21.1! To get started, we will want to go over how to download OptiFine 1.21.1. There is link in the description above that will take you to the download page for OptiKai. Kai is the developer who has been working on OptiFine and released it for 1.21.1.

On this page, find the Minecraft 1.21.1 version and click the little “Mirror” link next to it. This will take you to the 1.21.1 OptiFine download page. On this page, click “Download”. You may need to click it twice in order for it to work, and when you do, the download will begin. You may need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.

After you have it downloaded, we can move on to how to install OptiFine 1.21.1 in Minecraft. It is worth noting you will need Java 21, linked above, installed in order to get OptiFine. From there, find the OptiFine file you downloaded, and open it with Java.

When you first open the OptiFine installer, you will get a notice saying this isn’t from the official OptiFine developer. Then, click the “Install” button. OptiFine 1.21.1 will then successfully installed as long as you have play Minecraft 1.21.1 before and Minecraft and the Minecraft Launcher aren’t open. You can click “Okay” and click the OptiFine Installer and delete it.

Now, open up the Minecraft launcher and go to “Installations” at the top. Here, as long as modded is checked in the top right, there will be an OptiFine 1.21.1 profile. Playing Minecraft with this version will open up Minecraft 1.21.1 with OptiFine installed. You can go to Options, Video Settings to see this.

You will notice shaders is grayed out. This is because shaders isn’t ready in OptiFine 1.21.1, and they currently do not working. If you want shaders without Optifine, you can use Iris Shaders, linked above.

This has been working very well, but I've noticed a small bug or something. I have an aquarium in my world, and I noticed that when there is water on top of glass blocks, the water turns green. This only happens to the water on top of glass blocks, and its only green when I see it thorugh the glass, but it annoys me. I would be thankful if anyone could help me.

I think I've followed all of the steps correctly, however when I open my game nothing looks different. I tried relaunching and noticed on the top right corner of the launcher were some icons that said something along the lines of "this instillation has been modified and might not support the latest player saftey features" - is there some safety setting I need to turn off?
