java -version (check if java is installed)

= if java is not installed then:
su (root password)
sudo apt-get install default-jre

java -jar OPTIFINEVERSION.jar

(instead of OPTIFINEVERSION type in the filename of your downloaded optifine jar)

Thanks mate, if anyone is having problems where Optine is not finding the game instalation, just extract it and copy the files to the .minecraft you can find it on the game launcher on a little folder icon, and reset the launcher, it worked for me.

if you have the issue of the installler telling you that you do not have that version you might have to reinstall the minecraft launcher but specifically from the minecraft website. Many distribution methods (like the pop shop) will make a different directory and confuse the installer.

if you didnt get the pop up at 1:55 due to the file not being executable you can right click, properties, permissions and allow executable

To use on 1.17.1:
1.) launch Minecraft
2.)go to options --> recourse packs --> open file location --> go back a folder --> Copy the .minecraft folder location
3.)Past folder location in Optifine Folder
4.)Install

When someone have "unable to access jarfile" error like me i have simple fix for that, just rename your optifine java file to optifine.jar, after that open terminal in downloads folder and select command java -jar optifine.jar . That works for me fine

Just a quick note, if you already used "su", you don't need "sudo" - and vise versa :)
