Trying to research plant sterols and stanols and wondering about a supplement. One doctor online suggested one made from pine. It sounds like if we eat a lot of fruits and vegetables we'll get enough, I guess. Don't want to buy a supplement unless it's been vetted as good.

The most worrying is not only the high cholesterol serum, but also the cholesterol accumulation into the cells that gets oxidized and crystallized and can not simply be measured with a blood check. "Plant oils" are not the same as "plant lipids". Oils are industrial products. Lipids are natural fats present in whole plant foods. Not the same.

For most people, plant sterols are safe, but in a minority are toxic. This is probably not an issue for 90% of people, but for hyperabsorbers (including the super-rare person with sitosterolemia), they can be harmful. It's easy to check - just measure blood cholesterol before and after starting sterol supplements. If cholesterol has increased, this is a clue they are not for you. An abnormally high HDL-cholesterol is also a potential signal of hyperabsorption. If you can get access to plasma sterol testing, this is the gold standard, but few doctors are aware of it and it is not easy to be tested..

Plants increase plasma saturated fats which can be avoided by a red meat based diet.

This bloke seems to just be holding on to life. Whatever this old bloke is doing, I'll make sure not to do.

So does this video make the case that, The Citrus Bergamot supplements, really can lower LDL cholesterol ? (it sounds like it)
