Can you get Dolby Atmos Without eARC? In this video we'll look at 3 different ways to get Dolby Atmos with standard ARC. This will work with Soundbars and AV Receivers for Home Theatres. It's common for people to talk about the HDFury Arcana but there are 2 other very overlooked methods to achieving the same result and it may save you a bit of money. Some TV's with ARC ports are still Dolby Atmos compatible. I hope this video has helped you.

Life saver mate! Great vid, to the point and exactly what I needed. We have an older 2020 model Q90 Samsung with Arc and a new q990 11.1 sound bar (which is amazing). Had to buy the new Apple TV and glad we did! Atmos works extremely well with it, you saved us getting a new TV just for eArc. Admittedly, an 85” Sony with Dolby vision would have been a nice addition haha! Thanks again for your very helpful vids!

Bought the Samsung hw-q990b soundbar only to find out that my oldish LG EG910V (HD only, with HDMI 2.0 ports and ARC) wouldn't play Atmos.
This issue was clearly indicated in Series S Xbox (audio related test view), but as soon as I attached the Google Tv to one of the HDMI inputs in the soundbar, the Xbox was able to verify that there is indeed Dolby Atmos available. Prior to this, I just haf to purchase either Atmos or DTS-X plugin from the store and ready to enjoy the advanced features. When I now watch dolby Atmos videos in Netflix (Ultra subscription), there is a Dolby Atmos text shown in the soundbar's display.

Is there a reason why a simple HDMI splitter shouldn't work? The Arcana looks like just a glorified HDMI splitter...

I find eARC is really unnecessary and causes issues . Apps can easily be heard /viewed from a 4K Firestick plugged into the receiver.
My major issue with eARC is that it works with HDMI control . I’ve found HDMI control turned on can actually make your receiver turn on in the middle of the night by itself ! Disabling HDMI control fixed the issue . I’m a bit old fashioned and prefer to turn on my devices individually by myself and just change the receiver input selection . Having the tv remote control every device is never as flexible or comprehensive as having the dedicated remote for each device with specific buttons tailored for the specific device

Atmos seems to drive everyone nuts. I have a 2017 Samsung Mu8500 TV. It doesnt seem to find any Atmos on Paramount+. It DOES stream Atmos from Prime, but no movies other than those made by Prime (actually mainly series like Wheel of Time and The Rings of Power). I cannot find any info as to why this is, and its driving me nuts. Connection is regular arc, receiver is Yamaha rx-a780. Why does everything with atmos seem so randomly messed up?

This is a great video. A couple of questions: my TV doesnt have Dolby Atmos support but the soundbar does. I have a PS5, Xbox Series X and Firetv 4k. I would like to get the atmos sound from all of them. My current method is to use the optical cable from the tv to soundbar with everything connecting directly to the tv so there is no confusion for me. Anyway my tv is Samsung Q70B series that according to their website has dolby digital plus. My soundbar is the Q700C. How do i connect all these and get the best sound. With my current setup I notice a big difference if i play netflix 4k movie through the xbos series X/Amazon FireTV 4k instead of directly through the TV app.

I just purchased the Sonos Arc with gen 3 sub and 2 ones. My TV doesn’t have EARC nor can it decode atmos. I can’t plug into the Sonos with my Apple TV 4K because both only have 1 HDMI. Is this what the fury is for that you talk about? Someone mentioned an Orei HDA-931. Is that the same thing as your fury or something different? Is one of those what I’d need to get Atmos to my Arc and then send video to tv? Thanks, and sorry for a newbie question.

Im looking to buy Atmos soundbar to connect it wirelessly with the Projector through BT. Do you think it will give me atmos effect with the help of BT? As you can understand the projector will be on the back of the room soundbar will be in front towards the screen. I do not want the hdmi wire to be stretched all the way from the back to the end which just negates the point of having wireless soundabr?

Right, so if you have an LG 2018 model, which has Dolby Atmos but Arc only, and want to get the true uncompressed Dolby Atmos via eArc through the use of apps such as Prime, Netflix, HBO and regular TV from your provider, it does not matter because they are streaming the compressed (DD+) version of Atmos any way?

If that is correct then the only reason for wanting eArc would be for when you watch BluRays, right?

Another thing, I use my apps via the LG TV directly, so it is not coming from the TV box from my internet+tv provider. Would this setup then become impossible because of the LG TV sending its own signal to the HDFury just to get it's own signal back again?

Hi Josh. Thanks to you, I am now getting atmos in our Q930B on OTT platforms using firestick TV 4k max. I have also bought a splitter and connected a hard disk to Firestick. But it looks like VLC doesn't support Atmos. Which media player do I install in firestick to watch Atmos content from Hard disk? Could you please suggest, thanks

Awesome information! So, if I mainly use my Xbox Series X (which does support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos), then I should be good to go if I just hook up my Dolby Atmos soundbar/surround sound to my tv and use my Xbox for streaming/gaming? My tv does not support eARC, but does have an ARC input, but the tv itself does not have/support Dolby Atmos. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I came across your video after a long research, your video has been a lot of help, but I just want to be sure about one thing, I hope you can help me.

Recently I have purchased a "Smart Monitor" 43 inch Samsung M7 (ls43bm700uuxuf) which has HDMI ARC and supports Dolby Digital+, I have ordered the Q700B Samsung sound bar which supports Dolby atmos and has eArc HDMI, and HDMI INPUT

On my gaming PC I have a couple of movies which has Dolby TrueHD and I was wondering if I connect my Soundbar to my PC through (HDMI INPUT ports) not the "Arc labeled ones" and then connected my PC to my Monitor with another HDMI cable through HDMI IN ports to playback the video, will it be possible to achieve a Dolby TrueHD?

Also I have Display port 1.4 there are cables which on one end have a 1.4 displayport and on the other 2.1 HDMI would that do any good, or are they meant for other purposes...

Thank you in advance!

Hi Josh,
I'm evaluating two Atmos capable sound systems that both support pass-through of the TV images from an Amazon Firestick MAX. My problem is that one of the soundbars only has one HDMI ARC port. As I'll need the HDMI port to connect my Firestick, can I use the Optical connector to pass-through pictures to my TV or is there some kind of HDMI Splitter switch that'll allow me to double-up on my use of the soundbar's single HDMI ARC port? I'd also like to connect a 3rd HDMI device to my setup, a Blueray player, if possible. Many thanks for any replies.

Great video mate! I've got a quick question...Let's say your TV is Dolby Atmos compatible, and you use the inbuilt apps to stream movies/TV. You then output sound to your Dolby Atmos soundbar via ARC/eARC. Given that all streamed content uses Dolby Digital Plus for Atmos (not Dolby TrueHD), is the added bandwidth of the eARC being utilised at all here? (as opposed to just ARC?) My understanding is that from a Dolby sound perspective, the additional bandwidth from the eARC is only needed for Dolby TrueHD. I.e. DD+ runs just fine (at it's full intended quality) using just ARC. Is that right?

do you need hdmi 2.1 on a soundbar to get the best sound quality [uncompressed] dolby atmos, dolby vision 4k etc.

Didn't quite understood you, If I have TV without Atmos support but I have the Nvidia shield, I need to connect the nvidia to the hdmi in into the sound bar, and then the HDMI out in the sound bar to the ARC in the TV ?
