Proof that YouTube supports 5.1 Surround Sound (Dolby Digital Plus) @ShreyTyagi

So this video for all those who used to make fun of me when I said that YouTube does support 5.1 surround sound. As you can see here, 5.1 surround sound option is showing. And if I show you the "Stats for nerds", even there you can the "ec3", i.e., "Dolby Digital Plus" format is showing. And if I show you my home theatre receiver, even there you can see the "DOLBY DIGITAL" format is being displayed.

In case you guys did not notice, even this video is in 4K HDR and 5.1 surround. (Recorded with iPhone 12 at 4K HDR 25fps; voice mixed in center channel and music mixed in both surround channels).

does it not work with the 1080p TVs? I got 2018 Sony Android TV but it aint showing the option. I updated all apps and settings.

It actually support it, but only for movies, not for general videos.

Youtube supports 5.1 in Google TV, Android TV and Roku. NOT in YouTube Web. You are showing Youtube from a TV. The fact is you just get Stereo in Youtube Web. All your channels will be downmixed to stereo. So all those who use youtube web for 5.1, 7.1, dolby videos are meaningless.

I am one of those people. I can confirm that 5.1 is working again.

When I commented that YouTube did not support 5.1, it was because YouTube did not support 5.1.

As I've said in other comments, 5.1 stopped working (for all of YouTube) back in March, and it was disabled for several months. I don't know when they reenabled it (I don't check it every day, but it was definitely within the last month) but it is now working again.

BTW, I have a comment regarding the difference in quality between regular YouTube and an app called smarttube. Smarttube's quality was superior compared to youtube app. Probably something related to the stream it chooses. Level was better on that app and even some of the sounds were not audible on the regular youtube app.

Yes, in fact, there is an option for 5.1 sound in YouTube app for Smart TVs (just checked on my LG OLED C8). Not sure about Android TVs, don't have one. And there is no such option YouTube for desktops. Unfortunately. Why, YouTube? Subscribed to this channel.

I can vouch for 5.1 as well. I am using an LG soundbar at it also shows Dolby Digital when playing your videos. Keep up the good work 🙏💯

Its up to that where you play youtube. for example i cannot get 5.1 through my computers google chrome even though my computer is set for surround. (I get dolby from vlc player) I can get dolby surround if i watch it on my smart monitors built in you tube player. My monitor is connected to my home theater system via hdmi. I can even hear my amplifier clicks when it changes to dolby surround mode. The display also shows it

That's how you can test titles like "dolby atmos dts x digital 5.1 master audio ultra 4k HD HQ Surround sound test" are actually 5.1 or just stereo uploaded by someone who doesnt know anything about audioformats💀
