Sound bar for a decade plus.

Only now converting to a true 5.1 setup. Can't wait!

10 years ago I started with a very basic soundbar, but over the years I wanted a better sound. Currently, my sound system consists of 6 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains, 2 for the side channels, and 2 for the rears), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 4 SVS Prime Elevation speakers ceiling mounted for Dolby Atmos and 2 SVS SB-3000 Subwoofers. The system is powered by a Parasound Halo A52+ 5 channel amplifier and a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A 11 channel AVR with dual AC Infinity AIRCOM T9's keeping them cool, and all are connected to a Panamax M5400-PM Power Conditioner. The output power of this Living Room home theater system is 2, 800 watts R.M.S.

Well done for your explanation. Not sure I'd agree that a soundbar is the best for 'most' people, but for many perhaps.

I had a Samsung Q990B, which sounded fantastic, but thw wireless speakers kept disconnecting and being a major pain, so I got it fixed under warranty and traded it in for a Yamaha AVR with Wharfedale DX2 5.1 which was also great, although mediocre with music.

So I upgraded to Spektor 6, Spektor 1, and Vokal with sub, which was fabulous. Then I added the Wharfedale sub for 5.2. Because, why not?

Within a week, I was adding Eltax atmos upfiring speakers. And the difference was night and day between the Samsung and the 5.2.2 Frankenstein set up I now have.

What I'm saying here is that once you start building your own, it gets addictive, and costly. But worth it. I don't think I could go back to a soundbar now, and certainly wouldn't go back to TV speakers.

And now you've mentioned 4K Blu Ray players, I'm seriously considering one, because I'm too lazy to keep changing discs in my PS5, and because I'm not sure how it'd handle movies in full Atmos.

You're a bad influence, but I like it! ;)

Hi Yuri, thanks for a great overview. I'm considering upgrading my 5.1 to Atmos and your video was full of information. Our wives might be related because when I tell her we need an upgrade she's going to think I'm nuts. I also thought you did a terrific job on the sound mix and film shots. Really professionally done. Props!

I have a Sonos Arc with Sonos One SL's for rears connected to my LG 65" CX.
Sounds amazing but I do find that the bass can sound a bit flappy sometimes, which I think a dedicated Sonos Sub would help with.
I just can't justify £700 for a Sub at this point.
I hope Sonos bring out a smaller less expensive version of the Sub as I think there is a market for that?

DD ATMOS via an AVR in 5.1.4, or 7.1.2 with IDENTICAL speakers all around in an "AURO 3D speaker layout"... ;)
THX for great video

My setup Samsung Tv 2023 Ue55cu7172, Samsung soundbar q800c +sva9500 s rear speakers, nvidia shield. Soundbar connected via eARC to Tv, shield via hdmi to TV. Many people advised me to plug the nvidia shield into the soundbar. But that's not how Q symphony works..

I always thought 5.1 was front left and right & middle. And Subwoofer. Wide left wide right. 7.1 then have two rear speakers right and left.

I have à question, you tell us that their is 3way to have hight channels, on the top, with the top reflection of the sound and with a bar, but you have two side hight channel on the left and right center pointing you directly, is it the 4 way of doing it or these are not the hight channel?
