It’s important to note that all movement is great movement!

Everyday Walking - The Leisure walking that we do throughout the day - walking to the store, the mailbox, around the house is sometimes called NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). The amount of general moving determines whether you are sedentary or not.

Typically, sedentary is less than 5,000 steps per day. Low active is 5,000 to 7,499 steps per day. Somewhat active is 7,500 to 9,999 steps per day. Active is more than 10,000 steps per day.

When walking for exercise…fast paced/power walking you’ve moved from leisure to that when your arms are bent, you feel your heart rate going up, you can’t talk in long sentences and some begin to sweat. Make sure you take shorter, quicker steps to speed up…no long strides.

Let’s keep moving!! Let me know if you have any questions.
