also missing in this is where the calories are burned - when you run too hard you incorporate carbohydrate burn rather than fat I believe- now I am enjoying slow jogging ( though not for fat burning because I have very little to burn but for other reasons ) you go at a walking pace but because it is a type of running you use a lot more steps - so factor that as well - forefoot strikes and zero drop shoes ( requires a relatively slow transition time to make the arches strong as they are naturally supposed to be ) also enhance the benefits and take injury risk down for knees and hips - I am at the beginning of my slow jogging habit and find it enjoyable but effective - the trick ( because the ability to run a long time ' suddenly appeared almost from thin air ' ) is not to outrun your breath - stay beneath the lactate threshold and get all your calorie burn from aerobic systems rather than anaerobic . Don't worry about how far you go but the time spent. It's a lot more fun.Look up Niko Niko running or slow jogging - loads of info - this is more accessible to more people.

What's interesting is that your graph shows jogging to consume only 9% more kcal than slow walking, from (100-92)/92, and easily this conveys that walking at a fast pace (much safer than jogging) burns nearly as many calories as jogging does. Your test really should have included a fast-paced walking category. Of course, if the aim is to build strength and endurance, jogging would be superior by far.

OR the simple answer is walk another mile. One thing your study does not include is impact on joints and bones and over all body wear and tear. Low impact walking may take more time but the truth is you can walk a bit further and equal the calorie burn and do it at very low impact to the body. And not everybody likes to run..at all.

How do you actually differentiate a fast jog and a slow run? You can't. Hence there are walking competitions and running competitions. There are no jogging competitions because you cannot differentiate from running.

Since Im heavy smoker, i do walk 9 km 2 hour a day, 2-3 time a week.
Still can't afford running bt slowly I'll reach it 😤
