I took a yoga teacher training that didn’t even teach us the name of the poses I’m now in Kundalini yoga teacher training I love it I have an amazing teacher and it’s really sad that there’s so many people doing trainings out there that aren’t actually teaching the history or the practice they’re just showing the moves and telling you how to teach a class

As for if it's religious, I'd argue that in the same way that you can have a traditional Christian marriage without being a Christian, you can be practice an ancient Vedic practice without being Hindu. I mean, I've gone to funeral services, even for ones that didn't match my particular religious beliefs, and I was welcome because I was close to those who passed and I treated it with respect and dignity.

I love to listen to their podcast "yoga is dead" from time to time. Amazing series they did a few years talking yoga movement in the u.s. I only teach free yoga but have much respect for those that understand the depths of yoga and how it can empower within. 🙏

They started saying that yoga is not just about bunch of poses, and then speaks in the entire video about different poses. If yoga is more than that then speak about it.

In power yoga, knee over heel stacking isn’t ‘’just because’’ nor it’s targeting yoga to kill yoga…and we need to understand why. Additionally, there’s a big fat pink elephant that has been chilling in the room for quite so long and we need to address it.
So, alignment cues: Let’s take warrior 2 as an example, front knee stacked on top your front heel is for you to ensure maximum engagement of your leg by pressing your front foot down, contracting the muscles so your leg is using body Weight for muscles strength, this will also require you to press and engage your back foot from the knife edge for maximum contact with the floor as it has more surface allowance VS the arch. when you engage this much and send the weight down to the legs you definitely don’t want such muscle engagement to be happening around a knee that is far sent forward where it will need to bear such weight.
In a seated forward fold, you definitely want to avoid the rounding of your spine especially when you reach to your toes bringing your chest towards thighs, when your spine is being in a vulnerable position, in such opening where all vertebrate shooting out, you definitely don’t want muscles to lock against that. Hence the ‘’safety’’ claims. On the contrary In yin yoga, you don’t cue for the straight back in the fold, you simply encourage and cue. For a round spine but without the muscles being engaged.

Now, the elephant: only when yoga wasn’t taken as a religion is when we got safer practices, because that’s what science does in it’s journey disproving higher power claims. Yoga doesn’t need to register itself as a religion to be a religion, the fact that the teaching of yoga suggests a way of life throughout the 8 limbs is a form of practice no different than any other religion which minimize those who don’t wish to practice certain parts and those who don’t want the enlightenment part. It’s even More of a religion when people are asked to respect the ideology and being looked down upon as they haven’t reached the enlightenment bla blah journey nonsense. That sense of entitlement and superiority some yogis have whether because they were born in a place where yoga came from or because the believe they have found the truth is so unbearable no more and needs to stop. Btw, The last time I checked, many of those who brought yoga to the west weren’t much of light enthusiasts nor 8 limbs practitioners themselves. Some are facing SXL assaults and harassment claims they preferred to runaway and brush off..not to mention the cult forming practice and indoctrination of minds and generating wealth that wasn’t necessarily catered for those who need it.
A wealth that goes against the preaching of modesty and non attachment. I think the only yoga myth needs debunking is ‘yoga is not just a physical practice’’ because like any other physical practice, it generates endorphins feel good chemicals and that doesn’t mean chakra is open. As per other philosophy and practices.. well, who doesn’t want a life where there is balance and fair distribution of wealth .. who doesn’t know that clean is good .. who’s not concerned about stealing and due to the trivial fact that we are social creatures/beings that teaching is needed anyway and has been part of our development for so long and putting these teachings in a form of set rules don’t make it so unique that we shall be so wowed by… it would have happened anyway. It’s just yoga and it can be all the things it’s want to be .. it can also be nothing but …. Because it’s just …

following jesus make you christian..but doing yoga dosent make you hindu it just makes you healty .

I Just wanna say, what I like about yoga is that...
Yoga can be anything you want it to be, it can be mindfullnes, it can be relaxing, it can be a workout, it can be a time to relax, it can be meditation, it can be a fun time, it can be a hard time.


And according to my experience, find a yoga teacher that knows the name of the poses, not only that, they should Also be able to show you variation of the pose, like easy, normal and advanced since not everyone is flexy and might suffer from injures.
Also being able to tell another similar pose that stretch or workout the same muscles.

Why are poses or the asanas only considered to be yoga???
Doing some random asana without even knowing the science behind it or the significance behind it will definitely bring you more harm then well being...
Even eating drinking and every other can be yoga if you know to be aligned with the Cosmos.

about knees over ankle, personally, especially if I was squatting weights, if my knees are beyond my ankle, my knee hurts after a few exercises. my anatomy is like this. I guess for other people it's different
