The idea that people with doctoral degrees are only meant to work in academia is perhaps the biggest lie sold to us in graduate school.

Over the last 6 months, I've talked with hundreds of scholars who are so incredibly unhappy in their roles--because of the low pay, the separation from family, and the constant uncertainty around where their next paycheck will come from.
